What price range are we talking for entry level racing bikes...less than 1000e?

Are certain brands better than others (bianchi, sirrus, giant, trek)?
I have a hybrid bike(specialised sirrus) that i commute to work with...
However i am looking for a decent road bike to do the odd trip at the weekends.....

I bought the Giant Defy 5 recently. Seems like a great bike to me. got it through the bike4work scheme so it worked out at about 460 down from 650 as afr as i remember. think it's about 9 euro per week.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as yourself. From speaking to people in shops and friends that cycle I have been advised to check out the Giant defy & Felt F75 & F85 although the F85 comes in at €1150 . I have also heard mixed reports on the Boardman race range of bikes sold through Halfords although they do seem to be well spec'd at a competitive price. Does anyone know if there are any particular stores who are more likely to offer some discount off the retail price as to date I have only come accross one retailer who offered any level of discount

It depends on whether you are buying with cash or through cycle to work? I was buying with cash this time last week and pretty much every shop I inquired about bikes in were willing to give me a ~10% cash discount.

Thanks for the reply Colm - just spoken to cycle suyperstores and they were offering 7.5 % discount if I paid by cq or cash rather than a cycle to work voucher. What bike did you buy yourself

Boardmans are as good as any other bike out there.
