Suitable club for an outing - near Dublin

    Help required please...

I'm looking for a suitable course to have a society outing on in mid- to late-May (19th or the 26th). There should be 25-30 players of varying handicaps/abilities.

The course should be close to Dublin (within 30 minutes max), be attractive to the regular golfers, but not so difficult as to put off the higher handicappers and those who only come out once or twice a year.

I have already checked with Palmerstown House, Luttrelstown and Castleknock and, for different reasons, all are unsuitable. Carton House is also out.

Would anyone have any ideas please?

Nass , Castlewarden , are two off the top of my head , Nass being my favorite course of most that I have played.

Yeah, thanks pistolpetes11, and congrats again on last Saturday!

I had considered Naas, it being very close to me but we have an outing booked in the Curragh already so I wanted to go somewhere slightly away from the area...

Craddockstown, Beech Park, Southcounty, Palmerstown House are all good tests of golf yet enjoyable for the higher handicapper

St Margarets might be worth a look

Small membership so should be able to get out, close to town

Edmondstown is well suited to a variety of handicappers.

    Powerscourt has two great courses.

Tulfarris and Rathcore, both about 40 mins from Dublin centre though.

+1 for Powerscourt, played the East course in a society on Sat and really enjoyed it even though if it was blowing a gale and I'd no short game to speak off making for frustrating golf. Course was in great condition and a really nice layout, no water until the 16th but it's not needed, plenty of variety on every hole. Great facilities at the club also and good views around the course.

Headford new is 25 mins from the m50, cracking course. South county as already mentioned, my own club is suitable for all handicaps, hollywood lakes in Ballyboughal is a nice course, Roganstown not far from the airport is a savage course, Forest little beside the airport is another cracking course played it once last year have to get back there this year, Played Knightsbrook in Trim at the weekend nice course and 30 mins from m50.

    Take your pick:D

St Annes being a links would probably be in good nick this time of year and usually is open to society golf.
Dun Laoghaire is a cracking course and I played it with a society last spring.
The upper course is short played off the society tee so there is something there for all tastes and standards.

The Links in Portmarnock or Roganstown.

Thanks for that lads. I hadn't considered Powerscourt or some of the others... Keep 'em coming!

Scubapro, we've been to SC a couple of times already so its not a runner this year. (I'm sure I'll find my own way there soon anyway though!)

Obviously depends on which side of Dublin you're on - but I would imagine that Knightsbook in Trim would be ideal for you needs; distance, quality of course, after game facilities etc.

I also know that they are society friendly which may unfortunately mean that you could struggle with a specific date that time of year.

We use Balbriggan & Hollywood lakes. I think Balbriggan is a very enjoyable course.

There are lots of choices available - the attached link gives you an idea of just how much choice is out there right now:
