Comfortable shorts and a half decent rain jacket, and you'd be good to go. Get a multi tool of some sort from your LBS, to fix any on the spot issues, loose bolts etc. And make sure you've a couple of spare tubes with you, for obvious reasons.

Bib shorts/tights with decent padding if you value your boys. Good overshoes/gloves is also at the top of my list as well as chamois cream.

    sealable freezer bag.

I use this every day on my commute to work for storing phone and wallet in.

Keeps them dry no matter how heavy the rain.

    Something tight and revealing. :)

Seriously, avoid cotton garments. Buy gear designed for cycling. The material is synthetic and wicks sweat away from the skin and evoporates it.

Cycling socks, jersey, bib tights, jacket, shoes, cycling gloves.
There are so many jackets you should educate yourself before parting with money. Do you want warmth, rain protection, shower protection ? ...

Have a look here to get a feel for what is on the market. http://www.prendas.co.uk
