You could pop into your local bike shop and get 2 boxs new bikes come in, pack your bike and leave the box for recycling in your first destination. then have a google and find a bike shop in your finishing point and see if they are willing to give you 2 boxs, most bike shops are more than happy to get rid of them. I find pipe lagging provides great protection to the frame and is very light

I think they did it for Deenside Wheelers last year.

You should consider using the "poste restante" service: when you get to Hendaye post your gear to the Post Office in Prades, or even post it before you leave home. They'll hold it for you.

"You can receive mail at the central post offices of most towns. It should be addressed (preferably with the surname first and in capitals) "Poste Restante, Poste Centrale", followed by the name of the town and its postal code. To collect your mail you will need a passport or other convincing ID, and there may be a charge of around a euro or less. You should ask for all your names to be checked, as filing systems are not brilliant."
