    Hello,

I cannot (or never have) been able to open the webpage of a flyfishing site in the uk on my laptop. I can enter it from another laptop but not mine. Im totally useless with computers so hope someone might take the time to try point me to a solution. I usually google the site and click onto it from there but the google search/results page still stands. I have no problem whatsoever gaining access to any other page using my laptop so its really bugging me. I have ran Ccleaner to clean things up but still the same problem stands.

Thank you in advance for any info :).

    Mac or PC?
    What browser?
Is it the latest version of the browser?

Moved to general Computer forum, not a blog etc issue.

What Firewall/Internet Security/Anti Virus program is running on the laptop? I'm assuming another laptop on your network works fine, if not look into Changing your DNS Settings

Start orb>control Panel>Choose classic View (at the top view chooser)>Network & sharing centre>Adaptor Settings>Right click on your adaptor in use>Properties>TCP/IP v4 settings>For DNS set primary to be 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4. Then apply/ok and see if that works

no policy afaik, plus we're trying to troubleshoot it.

i don't think its a dns issue mind you.

go to start and type in cmd and press enter

on the command prompt type in:

    nslookup www.brokenwebsite.com

where www.brokenwebsite.com is the address of the website you can't get to

post up the results and the link.

it could for all we know be a problem with the website.

    vista_static_ip_03.jpg

It's the option to the left - the underlined one.

    The culprit might be IE9:

Why are some webpages blank ... in Internet Explorer?

so its not a DNS issue or TCP/IP issue
try deleting the temporary internet files in internet explorer and cookies

internet explorer > tools> internet options > Delete

check the temporary internet files and cookies boxes and click delete.

then try browse the page again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 201 ✭✭zziplex

I have tried that numerous times to clear things up, And also was told to run ccleaner before and that didnt work. Its so odd that its only that page that goes blank/white on me.

I guess that IE9 video thing demo step by step is worth a go??

EDIT: Just noticed you can PING it fine, so not a hostfile issue hmmmmm....

Place a request for assistance from their help desk/tech support with your internet provider.

But if, as you say, the site can be accessed from another computer via the same connection, that might be futile.

Ah no by another computer or smartphone yea but not using my internet connection(3pay).

    Yes that works!

Where can I go from here to solve the problem for normal browsing? I dont even know what a proxy is ffs :D.

    NOW we're talking. ;)

A proxy acts as an intermediary, so the forum will see you connecting from a different IP address.

And since you mentioned 3pay, the problem could be caused by a "shared IP" via UMTS.
    zziplex wrote: »

I don't think there is a solution to it. One of the shortcomings of a 3G connection and not much you can do about.

Or, the forum in question has banned a whole range of IP addresses from this provider, drastic measures like this are not unheard of. Then changing to O2 or Vodafone might help, if you want to go down this route.

Do you guys think If I contacted the board admin and explained my ip address is being blocked they would unblock it? Or is there simply no way around it?

Im happy enough now I can access the site thanks to you guys but the only thing now is when guys post links from outside flyforums.co.uk to a certain topic within flyforums.co.uk i cant use there direct link to access that topic.

    Cheers.

You can always ask the administrator. Since you can login via proxy, it's not that your account is banned.

Explain that you're on a 3G connection and tell them your current IP address (you can find out via whatismyip.com).
