Focus engine prob

I was driving focus today and when driving along it seemed like the engine started vibrating through gas pedal and engine chugging when in low gear and less power going to wheels and maybe lower than normal revs for a given gear when pressing on gas pedal. Going up a small hill near my house i normally can leave car in second with no pressing of gas pedal and it will go up hill without any hint of cutting out but today it was nearly cutting out and chugging and had to give it a good bit of gas and even then it was nearly cutting out.
I checked oil when i got home and it was basically empty, person who had been using car hadnt checked it for months and i forgot to check it recently. Filled it up with oil and only then when restarting car did engine light on dash light up indicating fault.
Cant get to mechanic for a few days. Is it alrite to drive short journeys in it till then ?

Its unlikely that the low oil had anything do do with it, although obviously not ideal anyway.

The focus is very prone to coil pack/plug/plug lead issues so this is the most probable cause.

Clutch seems ok. If i have the car ticking over parked in drive in neutral and give it some gas, when it gets to around 1300revs the engine starts vibrating/chugging/struggling a bit and you can hear this. Time to call the mechanic i think. Car needs a service anyway.

If its a 1.6 or 1.4 petrol it could be water in around the plugs or a dodgy coil.
