    Hi All!!

Im not quite qualified, i have completed two years in Gen Nursing but for the past day or so i have been helping out a friend who is a sports therapist.

I mind the desk and answer a few phones for a few extra quid every now and then. The only thing is, im getting the odd phone call from people who say they are in so much pain.

The person they want to book in with (chiropractor) is fully booked for another week or so. I mentioned to one of them that if they were so bad, that maybe they should get themseles to the gp or chemist. Needless to say, one of the staff here overheard me and nearly hit the roof. I tried to explain to her that i have a duty of sorts to not ignore anyone who is looking for help, that a student nurse (or anyone with any sort of healthcare background) has a duty of care even when not on duty.

Im fecked! should i follow the almighty buck and tell them how sorry i am for their pain but to give them a booking time of one week? Or do i sneakily give the really really bad ones a number of another clinician?

    thanks all.

    Yes it would be gr

I don't see how telling someone that says they are in bad pain to visit their GP would be a bad thing.
It seems more responsible then just telling them to wait and hanging up.
What is the official protocol for someone calling and saying it's an emergency, there must be something in place if a patient is saying they can't wait a week.

they should get themseles to the gp or chemist
............who will then refer them to a chiropractor!
