I am thinking of building a shed for cows calving. I currently have a slatted shed and a few small sheds for cows after they calf but i dont really have enough room. I am trying to design a shed with approximately 10 individual pens for cows after they calf. It will be a concrete flat floor shed (No Slats). Basically I am wondering does anyone have any sample drawings of a straw bedded shed with individual pens. I am going pricing soon! That could put a halt to my building Plans!!

rough bit of info for you
    10 12'calving gates 420 plus vat
    8 14' deviding gates 150 plus vat
    shed 60 x 40 roughly 11000 plus vat
    concrete 1400 roughly plus
blocks and sand, cement roughly 1800 roughly
wiring and plumbing 2000 (very roughly)
add it all together plus labour and you could be looking at near 30k plus

do you really need 10 pens? wants the recommendation again... a pen for every 12-15cows i think
what ever you do make sure that it is easy to clean!!!

    Galway 4 sam,

There is so much to consider, what type of farming? sucklers i assume, if your not putting in slats, effluent would be one to watch. could you pipe to slatted thank? def ease of cleaning out is something to consider. no spronging if possible!! again i would question 10pens.. depends on how many cows calving and how compact the calving season is.. Personally i stopped using calving pens as i was having trouble with scour, hard to be there all the time to let cows back to calfs.. i have slats with layback and i keep it cleaned out regularly. calves can go back during the day to ly down, cows only at night. Oh also, feeding and watering in pens something to consider??
