Someone posted here before Christmas that ITV 2, 3 and 4 were coming back shortly, which they did, and that in early 2012 there would be extra HD channels added (E4, ITV ....).
Has anyone heard anything about these extra HD channels recently?

Is there any point (for them) in them adding more HD channels before they can supply more HD Digiboxes?

I'm assuming we are talking about UPC. We cancelled our HD service last week. Just wasn't worth the money. In fact, it wasn't worth any money. HD should be a default option in 2012, not an extra.
Until they have HD for pretty much all their channels, they're not getting a extra cent off me.

HD channels are an extra because of the huge increase in resources required to provide them. Practically no cable provider worldwide has HD as a standard package.

Granted they don't have all the HD channels that Sky have but you want UPC to offer all channels in HD? You might be a long time waiting.

I know some people live in areas that a dish in not allowed.

However for the rest of us there is the option of Sky.

I wanted the Movies in HD so I changed over to Sky.

Unfortunately until Sky offer their channels in HD to UPC, the UPC HD service will always be the poor relation and IMO not worth the money.

To my mind the Ofcom ruling that Sky should offer Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 to other operators should be enforced by UPC. Granted it falls between jurisdictional stools as far as Ireland is concerned, but ComReg can't deal with it as Sky is regulated in the UK and so I think UPC at least has a chance of having it enforced by Ofcom despite the fact that Ofcom's jurisdiction obviously doesn't extend to Ireland.

I think the HD is worth the extra 5euro a month from UPC for just the sports alone.

Sky is superior for HD yes but the price they charge reflects this.
