I am planning on going to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam this summer. I have been looking at websites and getting info about vaccinations. What ones did most people get when you went? In particular, how common is it to get a Rabies one? It seems like its very expensive and I am just wondering how important it is?

I got the rabies vaccine cos it was recommended but most people I know didn't.
I have heard scare stories about insurance not covering certain things if not vaccinated, e.g. a guy getting bit by a monkey, emergency rabies treatment, insurance wouldn't pay for it cos he hadn't got the vaccine beforehand. Now I really don't know if this is true or not, one of those stories ya hear.

I was bitten in Thailand and my insurance did cover me for the Rabies prolaxis treatment and vaccine. I was with Axa and they were ok except they don't cover cash and when I claimed for cash after getting robbed they didn't pay out even though I was sold the policy under the understanding that it did cover cash.

The Rabies vaccine is a good idea as there is lots of cats and dogs and us westerners in shorts don't stand a chance if they do attack. Plus when you are vaccinated it is for life.

No need to get the rabies vacination,if by a very unlucky incident who happened to be bitten by a stray animal then present yourself to a public hospital and they will administer you with the proper treatment for a few hundred baht.
