Rent Relief

    Hi All

I filled out the R10 form a couple of weeks ago and sent it to the Revenue. Anyone know how long this typically takes before it's in your account? Or how long I should wait before sending it again/ringing them?

I'm a bit concerned it's gotten 'lost' as I've sent something else to them four times now and am still waiting to hear back.

I tried using the PAYE online but to be honest I'm so, so useless with computers and taxation that I really couldn't understand it. I can't emphasise that enough - I barely even understand how taxes work.

    Thanks

(Also - not quite sure where this should go, mods please move if need be).

I'm assuming you mean a rent 1 form which is a claim for tax relief against rent paid? Most PAYE sections have a 2 to 8 week backlog at the moment which could account for the delay. This is the busiest time of the year for PAYE areas which is why the online service is quickest and easiest way to go.

You say you have tried to use Paye Anytime to claim. Can I ask what was the issue you encountered? There are videos to show you how to use the service and you don't actually need to know anything about tax to use it. There is actually less to fill out online than on the paper form.

Also, can I ask what have you sent 4 times that has been lost? Where are you sending it?

Yep, sorry, I meant the Rent 1 form. I did manage to use the Paye Anytime to claim back overpaid tax or whatever it's called but I get lost with the rent relief, I couldn't figure out how to actually submit the request. My rent has also changed a few times (we've managed to get it reduced 3 times now in total, little by little) and I didn't really know the best way to mention that online so I thought the form would be easier, I included a note explaining the ins and outs of it. I don't know if that makes a difference or not though.

What I've sent four times was an application for a medical card. I was just losing faith generally because it had gotten 'lost' so many times. But when I got home from work yesterday I actually had a letter back from them looking for more info, so I think that side of it is okay.

I'll try the Paye Anytime again and see what happens - thanks.

You really weren't kidding when you said you don't know what's what! You'd be a while waiting back for a medical card from Revenue, seeing as it's the HSE who issue them...! I think it's fairly safe to say things go missing much less frequently in Revenue than in the HSE...

As regards the Rent relief, as long as you've paid more than the max. allowable amount in the year, which was 1,600 last year (down from 2,000 a couple of years ago) then it doesn't really matter if the rent went up or down...

Haaa, you're quite right, I know next to nothing. I did send it to the right place, they just kept not receiving them apparently. I think I was just lumping the HSE and the Revenue in as 'the man' in my original posting. All I have to do now to be considered for a medical card is give them further proof of rent, travel etc etc.

I've also mislaid my pin for PAYE Anytime...my saga continues.

    Thanks for the info :)
