02 hyundai accent water pump burst

    can someone give me a good idea how much it would cost to replace water pump, mechanic wants to charge 250 but my friend reckons thats way too much, ive no idea and hope someone on here might know thanks

    250 is a lot if he is only changing the pump. However if he is changing the timing belt and tensioner then it is a fairly competitive price. The water pump is driven by the timing belt and so the timing belt needs to be removed to remove the pump. There is a bit of labour involved but if it hasnt been replaced, it would be a very good opportunity to do so, look at it as two birds with one stone.

    Assuming its a the most common 1.3 accent, then the water pump isn't driven by the timing belt so the labour shouldn't be that high IMO.

    However, @OP, when was the timing belt changed last? They are due to be changed every 5 years on that engine so you would save labour a future expence by having the timing belt and water pump done together.

    This is why its always wise to have the water pump changed when changing the belt, to prevent having to pay for what is essentially the same job twice.
