High Quality Wood Flooring Recommendations

Moving to what we expect to be house for life.

Concrete ground floor. Want to install really good wood flooring that will look good and stand the test of time. Thinking solid wood.

Want something warm, but solid. Potentially going to have it glued.

Have no prices yet. Looked at junckers website, was impressed but will clearly have to look at it in the flesh, so to speak.

Has anyone had a really good flooring experience they could share. I think I want something high end but obviously price can't be ignored.

I've had a bad experience with solid in another house in the past (mainly down to poor fitting I believe) so want to be very careful with this purchase.

Oh, and I have kids, if that would colour anyone's views.

    Hi CBYe 1983
Junckers is one of the best quality flooring you can buy. expensive but you get what you pay for. Junckers use a clip system and only the ends are glued. Within the clip you have a built in expansion allowance but you also need to leave a room expansion perimeters. Take a look at the following site
    http://www.woodfloorblog.co.uk/category/floor-fitting/

I am a floor fitter and consultant. I was trained 30yrs ago and I have seen it all good bad. Make sure you use a qualified fitter because preparation and thought is the key to installing a trouble free floor.
Do a complete drawing of the areas you want floored. Look in each area see where you might see or have problems with like Fireplace Hearths, radiators, external corners, door frames, curves bends etc note them. Get a concrete moisture test, a relative humidity test of the air in areas to be floored, and also a moisture test on flooring note them. These three tests will let you know when you floor is ready for installation. ( A new floor has a confort level, just like we have ) Have the heating on normal as you would have for yourself.
    1. concrete moisture should be 5% or less with a relative humidity reading of between 45 and 65F and a floor moisture content of between 7 - 9%. If any reading are different you may need to put off flooring installation for a while.
    2. When buying flooring you will the same area in a vapour barrier which goes on top of concrete and under flooring. Allow 13 clips per M2.
    3. Junckers have a hardness stability of 1300 ( I think can check for you )
There is no junckers floor that cannot be fixed in situ. Felt pads under furniture etc. Kids no problem. Keep the stilletos off the floor.

Plenty of sales on at the moment good value out there.
Good luck with the floor. If you have queries put them up and I will answer any questions

I have Junckers oak floors and have not seen better looking wooden floors in any other house. Some people say that semi-solids look as good but they don't look authentic to me. They are warm and generally hard wearing but are vulnerable to pock marks from stiletto heels.

I would use a carpet runner in high traffic area like the hall. They're fairly low maintenance but need a regular vacuum as you don't wan't people walking grit and small stones into the wood.

Hello I am looking for a very good but very cheep floor fitter in Sligo to fit a laminate floor. I am also looking for a kitchen fitter to fit an Ikea purchased kitchen. Again cost is very important. Anyone got any suggestions. Thank you.
