Anyone else apply for the Temporary Posts at the Dept of Taoiseach?

Hi there,

Just wondering did anyone else apply for these positions?

Got an email this morning stating -

''The deadline for applications for the Temporary Posts in the Department of the Taoiseach was 5pm, Friday 17th February.

All applications received after this deadline will not be considered.''

Even though I applied at 2p.m that day.

Anyone else get this email?

I applied too but did'nt get that email just the general one saying thank you for your application we will be in touch with information regarding interviews etc.

I didn't apply but I would ring them asap and tell them this. Tell them you can print out details of when you sent the email from your email account and forward it if necessary.

If the mistake was on their side, I'm sure they will allow your application to be included.

I agree with Seafields. You should contact them asap. I guess that there was a large volume of applicants and their systems could have crashed. Once you applied before the cut off point you should be fine. Best of luck with it!

Yeah I got that one aswell but a minute later got the one about the deadline.Fairly odd!

I got 2 emails as well. I sent my application at 1.59 pm on Friday. I'm confused a bit now.

So you got 1 email about the deadline?And the other about ''thank you for your application'' etc?

I think the deadline email was sent out by a mistake, but it's a bit strange that not everyone got it!

Yep, they're the two I got. One from the eujobs address at 11.03 am saying thanks for applying, we'll be in touch about interviews in the coming days. At 11.05 am I got one from a specific person at the Taoiseach's department saying the deadline was at 5 pm. I didn't email back yet, up until I saw this thread I assumed everyone got the same 2 emails. I just txted my friend who applied as well, I know he applied after 5 pm so I'd like to see what he got. I do have proof in my sent messages with the 1.59 time.

Yeah they're the exact emails I got too..

I wouldn't have been worried but the commenter above says he/she didnt get the email about the deadline.

I sent 2 emails to the sepecifc person but I heard nothing back..

If your friend gets back to you, could you post what he/she says up here?

I'd be interested in seeing what he/she says.

I just rang my buddy there, he got 2 emails as well. One from the eujobs address saying you're late and your application won't be considered and another from that guy in the Taoiseach's department saying the same thing.

I wonder why we got emails from the guy saying about the deadline so!

Maybe their computer system went down sometime Friday afternoon..

Ah maybe that's the reason you didn't get the email about the deadline so!

I emailed that guy back with proof that I emailed at 1.59 on February 17. Hopefully it won't go ignored.

How did you do it?

Did you attach a screenshot?Or did you just forward the original email on to him?

I went to print the email from my sent messages and saved it as a PDF and attached it to my reply to him. The time and date of the email is easily visible in the PDF. Just forwarding the email would probably have been easier now that I think of it.

Just wondering if you wrote a cover letter? I did one, didn't think it could do any harm. I know it didn't ask for one but it really did seem like a job where a cover letter would have been appropriate. I thought it was strange one wasn't asked for. The application form was weird too, when I clicked on the word document I was expecting a 10 page application form of something, instead it was about 50 words.

I didn't write a cover letter as such - I wrote like a paragraph but that was all.

Strangely enough, I just checked my email there, and I got another 2 emails from yer man. Both say the same thing about the deadline.

Did you get these aswell?

I just checked my email there and I got the very message I got this morning twice. I can't explain it. It's very strange to be getting emails from civil servants at this time unless he has access to work email from home.

Its weird alright!The only possible explanation is that he has a virus, or else those emails were sent out automaticaly.After 12 at night is a strange time though..Did you hear back from him at all this morning or anything?

It sounds like those emails are automated replies . He might not even be in for a couple of days .

I didn't get a proper reply from that guy yet. The emails certainly seem automated. My friend that applied late got those same 2 emails last night / this morning. Don't know if I should email the EU jobs team but then again that guy could be the EU jobs team.

Yeah I didn't get a proper reply yet.

They seem automated alright, but very odd that they sent around midnight!

I think I'll email the EU jobs team there, just to see what's happening!

If I hear back from the, I'll post up here what they say..

Woops, I did, just said I thought I was getting automated emails from him. I know it can be annoying, I organised a competition for judicial researchers in the Four Courts one year and I was plagued with emails from people but how hard can it be to give people a simple yes or no.

I'm guessing they'll get in contact with us if we're called for an interview.

I remember years ago, people used complain about getting pfo (please feck off) letters from companies. I'd much rather that than hearing absolutely nothing from them..

It'd be very easy aswell, all they'd need to do was send out a generic email to people saying ''sorry you weren't selected etc.''

Has anybody had any luck re: interviews or any sort of follow-up?

I'd imagine there was a great deal of competition for these positions so, as is the case in such situations, I don't necessarily expect a reply saying "sorry... etc".

Seeing as it has been over a week now I wonder has anybody has heard anything new back?

No I never heard anything and I was wondering the same myself. I would'nt be surprised if they were still only processing the initial applications. It would be nice to even receive the email saying sorry etc. at least that way you wouldnt be thinking about it!
