im sure this has been discussed before but j p magnier as a jockey is probadly the worst of the worst i hadnt a bet in the bumper today but he was riding a newcomer from paul nolans defy logic and am certain any other jockey would have won on him and i know he only rides as a hobby and really only his fathers horses but think its just madness backing a horse his riding whats your views?

i watched the race with my auld lad who's a race horse owner and we both commented on how bad a ride it was, it was an absolute disgrace...
it was easily the best horse in the race and he f****d it up bug style, how they can persist with giving him the rides is beyond me...

Maybe because, as owners, they can give the ride to anyone they want, and I actually respect the lad for getting up and riding their own horse, something that those of you who talk through your pocket may not ever understand.

I backed it but I knew it was a proper gamble on the jockey.
I just laughed at how bad a ride it was at the end.
But I knew what I was getting

He has ridden a lot of winners, before you criticize, how many have you ridden? and shouting at the telly while hitting the couch doesn't count as riding a winner!
    best of luck to him.

in fairness winner he has ridden have been steering jobs and he has even managed to get beat on a few of them!!! as for fair play to riding there his dads horses and knows he,s not going to get a bollicking from the owners id love to know what paul nolan made of todays ride going on his documentary on tele im sure there was a few ffffs words!! and fot those of ye defending him if you owed a horse who was good enough to win a bumper and fancied pulling off a gamble would you get j p to ride him? i defo wouldnt!!

    Did you see the ride
Inexperience and lack of practice in a finish
    I'm sure he will improve
And I have no problem about him riding his fathers horse
I'm just giving my opinion on his ride today.
Horse was a handful early on for him too

The best horse won the race

ritchie a rematch with paul nolans usual bumper jockey mikey fogarty riding the 2nd nolans would be 1/4 with de bromheads 5 to 2 just my opionion and i know where my dosh would be going!

I agree. He did it a shade cheekily if you ask me looked like he had a bit to spare.

A rematch off level weights would bare the same result. Do you always put your money on 1/4 shots who lost there previous race by 1l+ against the horse who already beat them? This doesn't sound like a very good betting angle!!

To be honest I think the racing in Navan today was a non betting day, low prize money, close to the festival and plenty of jockies going easy on horses.

I usually stop punting around now and concentrate on form research for the the best 4 days of every year :D

No bets for me either. What is it they say anyway. "Navan is the punters graveyard"??

This is such a silly angle to look at it. It's like giving out a boxer's performance, and then being told ''Yeah well you turn professional so!!!!''

A bit of a dim view on the matter. Just because we don't ride horses, doesn't mean that it was a good ride, it'd be naive to think that way.

I seen the race. I thought the winner wasnt given the best ride either and he still managed to win. So i think the best horse won. That is my opinion of the race.

if you read the thread proberly youd see i hadnt a bet in the race just laughable the ride the 2nd horse got

Horse was very keen for the first mile also

While not sure the jockey cost it the race he's a shocking rider. And before you ask I've not ridden any winners on the track but am still entitled to my opinion

FWIW there's been a good bit if chatter on the Betfair forum about that horse. Supposed to be pretty good. The winner was well backed against Make Your Mark at Punchestown & they both came nicely clear of the 3rd so could be a decent bumper.

Decent point, take away betting though and the industry wouldn't be as we know it.

In saying that I just tend not to back anything with JP Magnier on it as I think he's quite poor, the only reason he's on is because of who owns the horse, skills/ability or lack of isn't a factor.

Fair play to him for riding in the races though as you say.

how can you say fair play just because he rides he own horses the man has no ability whatsoever, a jockey with some talent should be on those horses as for the the ride today it was comical i had it backed but still laughed it was that bad. Surely his father must find it embarrasing

I imagine he has a fair idea he's not up to it, I thought it better to say fair play than the likes of ..... the *insert expletive of choice* has enough neck for two heads to get up on a horse in a rules race :pac:

Shows what a monster Rhinestone Cowboy was if this kid won a few grade 1s on him.

Still think the best horse won today though

    Wrong and Wrong.

Best horse finished second and just
because a crap jockey has the balls to ride a horse in a public race does'nt ment he's immune to abuse on a public forum convert.

Im a crap singer thats why I dont sing in public karaoke contests because I know people would criticise me.

If I did sing in public I'd expext abuse even if daddy did pay for everyones night out.

I have not seen the race or had a bet on it.I don't agree with this point though, i have seen many people giving out about the ride today on many different forums.

I just think it's like a billionaire buying a premier league team and playing his own son.I'm sure if he's as bad as people have said his father must surely realise this and give his horses the best chance of winning races by not giving him the rides.

It very much looked to me that the jockey couldn't be bothered getting him in front but I thought maybe there are bigger plans for the horse.

What I mean is at least he is doing something positive with his life.... he doesn't need to be a professional jockey for a living, this is his hobby which just happens to be viewed by the public, he is doing absolutely no harm to anyone only the punters who back him! if you think so badly of him just take him on with your bets and that way you will be on the right side of your opinions although you will probably find that his riding ability has already been factored into the price.

A great hobby that very few will ever experience!

No matter who they are, nobody should be abused in a public form. Their ability may be questioned, but they should not be attacked, especially when they aren't here to defend themselves.
