    Hi All,

I came a bit late to driving but am about to do my test and am looking forward to getting rid of the L plates.

Looking to trade up from my learner car to something a bit sportier, not averse to a convertable ;) have about 10k to play with and not sure what to go for.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I would get some more driving experience in the learner car. Maybe until you build up a bit of an no claims with an insurer. The premiums won't be as bad then when you want to trade up. I kept my learner car for 3 years.

Convertible? Would love to see your insurance quotes for that.
I've a full clean licence, named driver experience and 3yrs NCB. Live in the countryside with car parked on a secure gated drive and was paying over 1k on an a4 cabriolet. And that was two years ago when I was over 30.

What car have you got at the moment?

If you were driving round in a 1ltr for example, anything with a bigger engine is gonna feel sportier/faster.

Does your 10k budget include insurance/tax or is it solely for a new motor? What type of insurance history do you have? Ncb/named driver? Might not seem like a big issue at the mo but the last thing you want is to purchase a motor that you can't insure.

Yep a one litre. Solely for a new motor.

Maybe you'd consider an Alfa? When I was sussing out insurance on a new(er) car there was very little difference in the price quoted between buying a Mondeo and an Alfa 156.

How about a nicely specced 1.6 SEAT Leon? http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2985070
