    Well when I lived in Dublin, yes it would sometimes get mentioned at interview (I lived in Dublin 6).

    The reason they asked you about your location may have been to determine the accessibility of the location from your home. It might be seen as undesirable to have to choose a candidate who has to take two buses for an hour in the mornings before getting to work.

    You said that they discussed the area further. I think the only reason it gets discussed is when an interviewer wants to make casual small talk in order to relax the candidate before assessing more serious aspects of his or her application.

    It's unlikely to be anything to do with suburban snobbery, I would expect, and is more akin to asking you about your hobbies. People find it easy to talk about this stuff.
