HTC Sensation - Wi-Fi won't stay connected

    Hi,

I have an HTC Sensation and just started experiencing a problem with my Wi-Fi today. This morning it was working fine and now it is reporting 'Connecting..' then Disconnected. Then it goes back to Connecting.. and shows me the list of WiFi networks in the area, then back to Disconnected. I briefly managed to get it to connect for maybe 30 seconds before it lost its connection.

    I tried:
    - rebooting the router
    - resetting the phone
    - setting the Sleep to Never

The problem only appears to have started happening since my phone upgraded to Android 2.3.4 today. Improvements to the Wi-Fi was meant to have been one of its improvements!

Could this have been the cause of the issue? If so, is it possible to downgrade back to 2.3.3?

I've searched quite a bit for solutions to this issue also - different suggestions (like the things I tried) but no definitive answers

    My phone software has:
    Android 2.3.4

    Software number: 1.45.401.2

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi

i have had the same issue on and off

    try this

    go into phone settings
    Wireless and Networks
    WiFi settings
locate the wifi connection that is giving you the problems-Select it you should then get an option to "Forget" select this and search for networks again and reconnect, you will have to put in Security details again,it worked for me.

    rgds

    Hi ClintonDaly,

(my internet access was a bit restricted this week - partly due to the phone - hence just replying now!)

I gave that a try this morning but unfortunately to no avail. The phone is still going through a cycle of 'Scanning ... Connecting ... Disconnected'.

I got a software update yesterday for it (while the phone did connect for a few minutes) - to 1.45.401.3. Didn't seem to make any difference, either.

The phone *did* connect for a little while after leaving it trying to connect for 15 mins or so. However, this seems to also be hit and miss...

As a final attempt, I changed the channel number of the wifi from 1 to 11 in case that might make a difference but no... :(

    Hi

just to further clarify your issue

Can you connect to any WIFI network, can you verify that the wifi you want to connect to is working,as in trying to connect a laptop or something to it?

Have you installed any apps just the before the issue started,i know another instance is where people have installed the Eircom hack apps and they mess with the Wifi

    Hi ClintonDaly,

Thanks for persevering with me :)

I have another router I'm going to try out, in case it's my Netopia that the phone doesn't want to connect to.

Regarding the apps - I know what you mean. I actually did a hard reset a week ago in the hope that it would sort things out (start from afresh) but unfortunately that had no effect.

Sometimes when I leave it trying to connect to my router, it'll succeed briefly, sometimes it will connect (very rarely, though) for a while and then just not work any longer and most of the time, it just goes through that endless loop.

One thing I did notice though - I don't know if it has any baring on anything - when I use WiFi Analyzer app, it can see any wifi signal in the area pretty constantly. So it appears that the phone can 'see' the wifi signals out there but just doesn't want to connect!

I'll let you know how I get on with an alternative router...

I had the same issue before, turns out it was the firewall on the router, I just switched off the firewall and its been fine since.

    Cool suggestion bro.

To point out the obv Disabling Router Security Is NOT a good idea!

Totally agree, it's what UPC advised though, they actually did this remotely themselves.

I had 2 laptops and 2 phones that wouldnt connect so it was my only option.

Nothing has happened since, but I can hold them responsible if it does, as I touched nothing.

Sounds like it was totally misconfigured. If you're in a household with a fair bit of tech it'd probably be worthwhile investing in a proper router, probably about €60 odd but worth it for security and performance, and wireless N.

Well, I haven't tried out the other router yet (a Thomson one) but my phone was back on WiFi again .. temporarily. I wanted to try out different options so turned off the Wireless security (for testing only!) and the phone connected to the WiFi. I then turned on the WPA security again and after rebooting the phone, the HTC connected ... for about a minute. It still showed the 'Connected to [network]' but really was not connected any longer - I couldn't get on to Android Marketplace. Not good.

I then tried the Firewall settings: mine was set to Medium, so I tried Low. The HTC connected for maybe 20 seconds and then did the same thing again - showed 'connected' still but I couldn't view any websites. I tried 'Off' but this made no difference, so I changed it back to Medium.

It just connected there again for a few seconds and lost its connection to the WiFi... sigh.

Ok, it's taken me longer than I hoped but I finally got a another router to test with (TP-Link). Unfortunately I had no joy at all connecting to it with the HTC Sensation - the HTC saw it existed, said 'connecting...' (I had wireless security off just as a starting point) and then went to 'Disconnected' after a minute.

My last hope at this stage is that the 'Ice Cream Sandwich' update will fix the HTC Sensation's wireless :(

Settings->Wireless->WiFi Settings; press menu->Complex->WiFi sleep policy

    Does that help?

Hi Gyalist, thanks for the suggestion. I currently have it set to 'Never' for the sleep policy and the "Best Wi-Fi Performance" checked on. Still no go though :(
