So, we bought an LG 50PT353K tv, which supposedly has built in freeview, we dont have an aerial on the roof, with our last tv we got a lot of channels connecting to a freeview box and running it through the old SKY connection that was here when we moved into this house. (we dont have sky, but a dish is in place)
I cant get any channels by tuning the tv in whilst it is connected direct to the coaxial sky cable, only by running it thru the set top box..
Any ideas how i can pick up the channels we already get thru the freeview box, so we can get rid of it and just use the tv..

Freeview wont work from a Dish. Its an Aerial signal for the UK and NI.

That TV is freeview, NOT FreeSat, it needs a UHF aerial, not a sat dish

But we dont have an aerial and can already get over 100 channels including Sky News, Food Channel etc. I presumed it was coming thru the dish.

What you have coming from your dish is Satellite channels receivable on a Satellite receiver either a Free to Air box, a Sky box, a TV with a built in satellite TV tuner or a Freesat box.

Freeview = DTT in the UK

FTA = Satellite. Generic receivers need retuning constantly when channels change a Tp or frequency

Freesat = Satellite. Freesat Receivers do not need retuning.

Built in Freeview is neither here nor there if you are using a satellite dish. In this case your TV is only a monitor and the tuning is done by whatever box (as in Scaller's post) you have plugged into the dish.
