Does Motor Tax Office keep your Theory Test Certificate?

Quick question! I applied for my provisional licence years ago so can't remember myself :(

You know how you have to include your Theory Test Certificate with your application form for a provisional licence - well I'm wondering if the Motor Tax Office looks at it and then hands it straight back to you or if it is actually taken along with your application form. Do you ever get that Cert back?

    Appreciate any information!

They take it from you. Why do you need it?

I don't. Basically my one (from 2007) was found dumped at the opposite side of the country recently and I've been fined for littering. Trying to prove I didn't do it so this certainly helps!

Wow! Scandal live on Boards. They keep it. You can't get your learner permit without giving it to them. Not only are you off the hook for littering. But they are on the hook for data protection violations.

So it seems! I got my provisional licence from the Motor Tax Office in Sligo in 2007 and on 20th December 2011 it was found in a bag of rubbish in an abandoned house in Tallaght. Received the fine in the post yesterday. My name, address, dob and PPS no were all on that bit of paper. Baffling.

Yea they take it in the same way you don't get back your form after passing the practical test so you can't apply for 2 simultaneous licences.

Best of luck Kotana, I wouldn't back down!

I wouldn't let that go get on to the local tax office and show them the fine anytime I passed a test it was straight down to chancery house to hand in the pink slip to get the full licence for just under two years i always carried a full licence and a provisional one .
Also the fact that it has your personnel details which could have been used in some form of identity fraud,Which brings me onto a question I've be meaning to post with the new credit card sized licences being introduced sometime in Jan 2013 what would people think if these licences were to be manufactured in another country?
The reason Im asking this is all your personel details would be giving to a company outside of Ireland for processing at present the drivers digital card for bus&truck are made in the UK again your personel details are sent to them.
Considering your drivers licence is the next legit ID to a passport do you think they should be manufactured in Ireland rather than abroad,Also I wonder how much the new licence will go up by considering the RSA charge us €50 for a digital card yet go across the border and it will cost about €22

Ye OP, you don't get to keep it. The only place it could have come from is the original from Sligo Co Co or a reprint from DTT.

I'd complain to the data protection commissioner about this if I was you. Either Sligo Co Co or the DTT (Prometric Ireland Limited) have been negligent with your details. My main concern would be identity theft considering the circumstances of where it was found.

Regarding the fine, have you spoken to the SDCC litter warden who fined you? Given the circumstances they might cancel the fine. If worst comes to worst and it goes to court, just explain everything to the judge.

Which centre did you do your DTT in?

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Someone has clearly been negligent and I just hope my details were stolen >_<

Don't you mean that you hope they weren't stolen? Although it may be good for your case if something happened to your details and it was ALL the Motor Offices fault, but I doubt you would be wanting to get bills for things you never bought and crimes you didn't commit. Then you would have a very serious situation on your hands! :)
