Hi people, misfire and idle jumping is back to my daily headache..

Any experience what is causing code 0021: Primary Ignition Signal Circuit Malfunction? Skyline R34 RB25DE NEO

It's doing this for first half an hour of driving- toggling between misfire and idle jumping -then it usually goes back to normal.
    3 strange things here:
    - Misfire is on for 15min at some point of first half an hour of driving. When misfire is on, is clearly not firing one cylinder- running on 5 only hence power loss
    - Idle jumping is active only occasionally but could occur any time while driving
    - Idle gets to 1900RPM when a gear is selected (on that last year video this is lower at 1600RPM)- acts like a "launch control" -and I don't think it's a feature from factory :P

Last year had same issues and then changed this stuff>
    • lambda sensor
    • coil packs and wires
    • CAS sensor
    • throttle body rear gasket
    • one vacuum hose
    • oil and filters

..so not sure which part solved the problem last time :/ since every part change brought some little improvement (except CAS sensor no effect).

I think either coil packs or throttle body gasket since changed them at the same time after which problem was totally gone.

but apparently the gasket shouldn't do these kind of symptoms but rather loss of power which I don't have unless the engine is running on 5 cyl.

Now.. so hard to believe it's coil packs again.. these are Rising Sun Performance ones
Any thoughts or some RB engine specialist recommendation is highly appreciated!

Did you change the CAS with a new one or second hand?

0021 is normally triggered by a faulty CAS on an RB.

It was second hand CAS yes - i will look for new one then.

Doc, do you recognize this green part here on the photo? What is called?

UrbanPerformance advised me to change that because it has something to do with engine oil - like it's not working properly until engine is achieved normal working temperature..

Thats your oil pressure switch or sensor. Do you have an oil pressure gauge in the car?

That's the variable valve timing solenoid. Did they say what the issue with it was?

I remember the car being in with us alright and I remember there being an issue but I can't remember what it was, I was busy playing with my Honda. I've sent the lad who looked at it a msg on bookface to see if he can recall

Yea they said if maybe stuck with dirt, or sensor inside is not good.. until it reaches normal working temp.. that's why no misfire when warm engine.

Ok so it's not "oil thingy" but VVT solenoid.. anyways sounds like something that could cause misfire, right?
