I'm surprised that Fox have featured this story. It's a little bit too close to the bone. I mean, yes, clearly the parents are at fault here but I'm sure there must be some people out there reading that and wondering "wouldn't it be great if the government stepped in and paid for life saving treatment".

Panorama featured a man who was walking around with a ruptured intestine because he couldn't afford the $20,000 surgery it would cost to fix it. The doctor told him that it could go septic and poison him but he couldn't afford the operation so he left without having it fixed.

There are tens of millions of Americans who may as well be living in the Congo when it comes to health care. And then there are even more than that who live in fear of losing their jobs and the healthcare that goes with it and being cast into this class where you simply pray to God that you don't get sick.

OP, you really need to start threads with more than a link and a rant. Ideally, you would give us enough context in your post so we would know what you were talking about without having to open the link.

I think this could be a good discussion on health care, but as of right now, you aren't giving us much to work with. I'm going to temporarily lock the thread, but if you want to expand the OP (and perhaps tone it down a bit!), PM me, and I will re-open it.

    Cheers,

    SSR
