Hi,i have a problem with the abs ecu in my 06 renault traffic van, i got the diagnostics done on it at the main dealer and this is what they told me is wrong. So they priced me a new one and its coming to a ridiclous price off €1100. I just have a few questions to ask so if any one can help i would be greatful.

1 Can i fit a second hand one? as i can get a matching one for next too notting.

2 Could it se fitted wit out having to be plugged into a diagostics computer to be reprogrammed to the van?

3 Would this effect the power off the van as it is sluggish on hills only?

    Thanks for reading..

Did they give you any reason why the abs unit was at fault.
You can replace with s/h but youd be better off having access to diagnostic after fitting.
If you can get your hands on a cheap unit you could chance plugging it ib dry and see does the light go out.
My money is on a wiring fault though
    engine power loss isnt related.

No they gave no reason just that it needed to be replaced, yeah i thought off fitting it dry first to see, should i diconnect the battery before connecting it? will it programme itself to the van itsself?

    Theres no programming involved
If you have the same part no there is a configuration but almost all sold in this country are manuals so it wont be a problem

Thanks crosshair for the advice, I dry fitted a second hand one but still no joy, would the 5 amp fuse that is for the abs be for the pump and ecu as it seems a small fuse and it is this fuse that it keeps blowing, but changing it does no good as the same lights are on in the dash and the speedometer doesnt work.

I dont think that there is much point continuing without diagnostic equipment at this stage, youve tried a replacement controller as advised, you mention a blown fuse,
I would be questioning if the unit has communicated with diagnostics at all, and if you can get a fault this would be the first port of call.
My thinking is still wiring though..
Back to you, get the abs scanned for faults and also the uch and report back

Got it sorted today, left it to a garage this morn and he fixed it in no time, and as you said it was a broken wire or two, it was cut leaving the cpu unit under the bonnet rubing on the steel casing. Cant beat the honest mechanic!

the wires were cut leaving the ecu box in the engine bay, they were rubing the edge off the back off steel box in my case anyways, It could also be fualty abs sensors too.
