In a rented house with a few other people.. He will be applying for rent allowance for this address soon, and should be entitled to it!

He might be entitled to it but first he needs to be either on a local authority housing list or have been renting for 6 months and been able to afford the rent when he first moved in.

Your part time earnings will be assessed as part of your joint income when applying for RS.

However, your status as a student will have no affect on his entitlement.

As long as you do not work above 29 hours per week, any entitlement will not be affected either!

In order to qualify, your partner will have to show he has been renting for a minimum of 6 months in the last 12 & that he could afford the rent when he took it on.

Failing that he will need to be assessed by the Local Authority as having a housing need.

He will also need to ensure that the rent charged is within the relevant limits for the area in which you reside.

Contact your local health centre for more info.

    Best of luck!
