Are Recycling business making money? if so does anyone know how?

What would be needed in a setup for recycling company?

Just wondering is there profits in business like this, as there doesn't seem to be many of them.

Plenty of profit, but it can be quite precarious. The market decides the price of recyclables, and as a particular "commodity" becomes scarce the price goes up. When it's abundant the price can fall through the floor (sometimes to the point where a particular product may have a negative value).
A friend is an accounts manager for a major recycler, and told me that while they charge for waste collection, they pay the same customers for quality recyclables. But from time to time the price they pay is more than what they can sell it on for so they end up sitting on tons of (say) paper waiting for the market to turn around. Deep pockets needed I would think.

By the way, the reason there seems to be so few of them is that Greenstar spent gazillions going around buying up small guys in the early years of the last decade.
