    Hi all,

I have an old car derived van and I want to put a logo on the side in rust! I wanna know if this will effect my DOE? I am keen to do the whole van but probably get to much hassel from the boys n blue!?

Here is a stock image of the van and the area I want to rust, mine's more knackered but under the hood is tight!

    picture.php?albumid=2009&pictureid=12017

I was going to sand back the area I have highlighted in orange in the pic and then use a stencil and some laq on the area I want to keep glossy/shiny raw metal and just let the rest rust

    peace out

Only rust with jagged edges will fail the DOE.

    Interesting idea but WHY?

If you take it back to bare metal, the area that remains exposed will rust in days. The problem as I see it though is that the rust stains will run down the siide of the van in no time and look like crap.

The reason why is to promote my paintings/myself to people who wouldn't otherwise have any notion of the existence of me/the work.

Yeah your on the ball about the rust running down that's the only thing that stopped me doing it this weekend! I like drips that one would see in tags around the place but rust running down over the white might just look nasty.

Let it rust a bit and then clear coat it?
I presume that'd stop it spreading and dripping?

Don't know if the coat would take to the rust though.
    What do the ratters do?

very bad idea, even if you let it rust up and lacquer over it the rust will still spread under the lacquered area and soon will spread into the whole panel, it will bubble up and look crap

my thoughts would be to get a printed vinyl mad up with a rust effect on it

Printed vinyl shoud do the job.
You can get it painted as well as if it was a rust and peeling off paint. It would look rusty, but the metal will stay untouched. Obvioulsy, that's the dearer option.
You can get the whole car done as like it was an old rust bucket with holes in it and all, without destroying the bodywork...

No hassle with DOE and if the coppers stops you, then what? They'd, probably, laugh their heads off.
