I have a living social voucher for an unnamed Dublin golf club and I was was told by the club secretary that I could avail of it beyond the through by date printed on the voucher. Do you think this is plausible or should I be Living and Social themselves who allow this request and not the club i.e would the secretary be unaware that once the through by date has passed that Living and Social would not pay the club or does anyone know that when you intially pay for the voucher that the club receive the money from Living and scoial as part of the deal?

The club will have already received payment for all vouchers, less the Living Social commission.
So if you were told by the club secretary that the LS Voucher would be honoured beyond the expiry date, I'd go with that.
Trouble is, a lot of member clubs try to keep costs down by having only limited paid staff, depending a lot on volunteers, franchised pro shops and being managed by a part time voluntary committee (that changes from year to year).
Result is communications can sometimes break down on the day.
If any problems, stick with it and you'll be rewarded for your patience ..... and enjoy your golf.;)

Not sure about living Social but there are a number of these other Voucher Companies that will only pay the club based on the number of vouchers returned by the expiry date (I.e. if they Sold 100 vouchers but only 80 where redeemed then the Voucher Company would only pay the club for 80 and keep the rest for themselves.)

If in this instance the club Sec has said no prob then I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy the game!

Living Social, etc operate on the business model that you pay them, but they do not pay the supplier until you have redeemed your goods, in this case played the round. So if there's ever a problem in receiving what you paid for, Living Social will refund you, your contract is with them, not the supplier. If you never redeem it, I'm not sure who pockets the money.

Whether the voucher can be used beyond the expiry date is at the discretion of the club, but I had one for Glen of the Downs in the past and they honoured it. In the current times, I expect most clubs will.

My experience of running offers on Living Social and one other groupon type operator is the exact opposite of your account of how things work.
Maybe you've had a different experience, but we got paid on time for all vouchers, less the agreed commission.
I could be wrong but I can't image any service provider agreeing to the terms you describe ... maybe you could be a bit more specific about where you got your information?

I made a purchase on Groupon, it didn't arrive within the specified time period and when I contacted them they refunded me, stating they didn't pay the supplier for the goods until they were delivered to me in full. Maybe they don't all operate in this manner, but this is what Groupon told me.

If I was a supplier, I wouldn't have a problem with these terms. Groupon advertise my product, get for example 1000 customers for me. I then get paid for the 800 customers to which I have to provide the product or service to, I don't get paid for the 200 I don't provide the services to. Basically I get 800 new customers, the other 200 I never dealt with. The only ones I see losing out here are the 200 customers who paid up, but never used their vouchers.

So your experience was with goods being delivered rather than services provided - maybe that explains it.

Services provided under groupon type schemes are very heavily discounted and leave only marginal revenue for the service provider. Among the main advantages are creation of customer awareness plus quick inward cash flow. Creation of the additional admin to operate the processes you describe would put off most service providers IMO and be very costly for the groupon operator.;)
