    Correct

They have a load of temporary floodlights on the old RWY29 for them. Looks like a music festival up there.

It's probably to stop Michael O'Leary from painting over the 'Sp' with 'Ry' while they're parked up at night.:D

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I'm guessing the lights are there for security reasons. Lot of money parked on 11/29.

I'd be thinking more so for a billboard effect. These planes are for sale.

The target market for these arent people who will be driving down the road looking for something to do with their spare €50m.

If they are for sale, they will be advertised on varios online places such as avitrader and the likes.

My guess is its also there for security.

From what I remember of Air Law it stipulates that an apron used for aircraft parking must be adequately lighted for safety more than anything else as far as I'm aware. Security would be a concern too. But I say it's more done out of meeting requirements than anything else because security at Dublin would be high enough anyhow.

Out of interest, are the Malev aircraft lighted in Shannon?

Air law/leg states a lot off stuff that isn't practical.

The Malevs are scattered around shannon and not all if any are lit at night,i'd hazard a rough guess and state the lights are for maintenance crews on a night shift to put the aircraft into long term storage otherwise it may be just a simple request from the owner.

Looks like there are 11 Spanairs here at the moment, between Shannon and Dublin. Most have been re-registered from EC to EI.
Spanair. The former carrier's fleet of A320/321s is being reregistered & ferried out of Spain at a very fast rate. The situation so far is understood to be as follows:
    EC-HPM A321 (1276) ferried Barcelona-Dublin 13/2
    EC-HQZ A321 (1333) parked at Barcelona
    EC-HRG A321 (1366) to EI-EUD 14/2, ferried Barcelona-Perpignan 15/2
    EC-HRP A320 (1349) to EI-EUC 15/2, on maintenance at Ljubljana
    EC-HXA A320 (1497) to EI-EUS 15/2, to ferry Madrid-Dublin
    EC-IAZ A320 (1631) parked at Barcelona
    EC-ICL A320 (1682) parked at Madrid
    EC-IEJ A320 (1749) to EI-EUF 15/2, on maintenance at Ljubljana
    EC-IIZ A320 (1862) to EI-EUG 15/2, ferried Bilbao-Dublin 16/2
    EC-IJU A321 (1843) to D-ALAB 16/2? ferried Barcelona-Shannon 16/2
    EC-ILH A320 (1914) to EI-EUH 14/2, ferried Barcelona-Perpginan 16/2
    EC-IMB A320 (1933) to EI-EUI 14/2, ferried Barcelona-Perpignan 15/2
    EC-INB A321 (1946) to EI-EUJ 15/2, ferried Madrid-Perpignan 15/2
    EC-INM A320 (1979) to EI-EUK 14/2, to ferry Barcelona-Dublin
    EC-IOH A320 (1998) to EI-EUB 13/2, to ferry Madrid-Dublin
    EC-IPI A320 (2027) to EI-EUL 14/2, ferried Barcelona-Dublin 17/2
    EC-IVG A320 (2168) to EI-EUM 14/2, to ferry Barcelona-Dublin 16/2
    EC-IYG A320 (2210) to EI-EUA 13/2, ferried Madrid-Shannon 14/2
    EC-IZK A320 (2223) to EI-EUN 14/2, to ferry Barcelona-Perpignan
    EC-JJD A320 (2479) to EI-EUO 15/2, ferried Madrid-Dublin 15/2
    EC-JNC A320 (2589) to EI-EUP 15/2, ferried Madrid-Dublin 16/2
    EC-KEC A320 (1183) parked at Madrid
    EC-KOX A320 (1383) parked at Barcelona
    EC-KPX A320 (1407) to EI-EUE 15/2, ferried Madrid-Perpignan 16/2
MD87 EC-FEY (53208) was registered to SAS as SE-DMM on 7/2 & ferried from Madrid to Stockholm/Arlanda today. The following Swedish registrations have been reserved by SAS for former Spanair MD80s - SE-DIF, SE-DMN to SE-DMS, SE-RJG & SE-RJH. Presumably, these will ferry to Sweden at some stage prior to then ferrying to the USA.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

could of sworn i seen one of these today with an engine removed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,498 ✭✭✭✭cson

I don't think I'm wrong in thinking that the engines could theoretically be owned independently of the air frame.

Very possible that that is the case. Most engine lessors would perform a detailed credit rating on numerous airline and if the threat is deemed high, they would insist that the airline install the engine in an aircraft owned by the lessor.

I heard today from a pilot that there was more spanair planes coming to Dublin airport today some of them are getting 1 engine removed as there owned by somebody else and there just going to be parked for the foreseeable future. The Malev plane is going to the scrap yard (desert)

Yep. Their B737-600 are not popular as they were not cost efficient (less than 70 built) so no airline wants them. More demand for the parts from them which can be sold on to other B737NG operators

(The B736 and the A318 are both seen as sub par aircraft, they have all the costs associated with their larger siblings but less capacity so overall higher costs per passenger)

Another possible is that they are taking engines off the ones that are in Dublin to send them to another aircraft that's still in Spain with unservicable engine, so that it can also be ferried out of Spain.

Friend of mine is doing something similar with aircraft from another operator at the moment

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

The Malev at DUB is a 737-700. In the last couple of years a few Easyjet -700s have been broken up, as their parts value is high. It will be interesting to see if any of the ex-Malev -700s go the same way. So far, only the series 600s have been flown to the USA, reportedly to be broken up.
