You're going to have a very hard time finding a real SNK cab here. An Electrocoin is all you'll probably come across in Ireland. I've been looking for one for years but unfortunately never managed to get one :(

Next closest thing is just to buy a standard JAMMA woody cab (for about 100 euro or so) and put an MVS 1 slot mother board in it (about 50 euro).

Or you could go all out and buy a beautiful candy cab and put a 1 slot MVS mobo in that :)

    Candys don't come cheap
I've seen a couple In Ireland go for €400-500ish but I'd say your looking €600+
I'm after an egret2 myself but looking like the uk is the only place to pick one of those up and they fetch £700-€1000
There was a user on here not too long ago with a few sega Naomi's and Astros
    Think they were in chapelizard

I contacted that lad Jeff in the UK today who sells candy cabs and although he has about 100 in stock, there are only two Egret IIs. And there's a queue for them. Everyone wants one! :(

He does have Astros, Atomiswave SDs and Blast Cities.

So far I've been quoted €195 for shipping on a candy from Ronnie in The Netherlands to anywhere in Europe. I'd say the UK will be the same or maybe a little bit less over to Ireland.

    Definitely!

Seems very reasonable for something of that weight.

Any idea what kind of candy cab you'd like? Atomiswaves look lovely and they have the added bonus of a detachable control panel. With that removed you'd fit it through any door in a house. They also have newer monitors than a lot of candys, and support higher resolutions with a VGA input. They only come with a 1 player control panel though, you'd need to hunt down a two player one.

Astro Citys look amazing too, but the one problem with them is that it's much harder to remove the control panel. You have to take a lot of it apart. So that's definitely worth considering if you have small doors. One benefit of them is they seem to be mostly two player.

What price was he looking for the Egret II's?
I've to pay off my credit card first before I even consider another cabinet mind you

His exact words regarding the EIIs were-

'Got about 100 candy cabs in stock and only 2 Egret IIs – neither of which has been started on and there’s a list as long as your arm for them ;)'

So there's not a hope of getting either of them I'm afraid. If there was I'd have one on the way to me now :pac:

Definitely up for this, been mentioned few times, been waiting for the go ahead and im in :) Ive been looking for Candy Cab for last few months and they so hard to find, If no problem waiting, might as well find a really cheap one to later fix up or better still a Mint one with absolutely no issues.

I think Egret II or III for me so far, Maybe Atomiswave they look great if can get 2 Player one. Great post o1s1n by the way :) Now we all wanting one even more than usual :)

I sourced a Nice Super Megalo (BIG!!! but great for 2 player, and this was with LCD mounts vs 50inch rear proj version) in UK last month and made an offer for around 235STG but seller stopped responding, anyways point being found great sound Irish courier but its still 250e delivered to Cork.

Be great to get a bunch of stuff from one seller and bring back in one big van or whatever, we could all collect at dublin depot of most delivery onto various parts for not much extra.

Finding a good Candy Cab is nearer as hard as finding a Good woman,
Takes lots of looking to find the right one :) haha

That one on adverts is an Electrocoin Supreme with a Neo Geo MVS mobo in it.

Here's the official SNK MVS machine you would have seen in Ireland and the UK. Was made by Electrocoin but specifically for Neo Geo hardware as you can see from the cab itself. The bigger 6 slot version is beside it on the left.

Ah no, just been really interested in arcade stuff for the last while. You'd be amazed what you find out when you get obsessed with something and spend every day looking it up online!

Let me know how you get on with Jeff anyway if you go that route. I reckon I'll probably be ordering something from him myself. Pyong hear got his Astro City from him and couldn't speak any higher of the chap.

Thanks a million, Ya ive been pretty much obsessed now for 4 years straight, but loved them all through teens, my dad use drive truck abroad so spent a lot of time playing arcades on the Irish Ferries and in Service stations, Playing Cruisin USA months before N64 was released in france, one of my fav moments :)

But Family from tiny Gaelteacht so had too Arcades right across road from Grandparents, again loads fun with track And Field, 1943, Pengo Pacman, etc.

I actually ended up getting one of old cocktail of them, but its pure Drug...
I have 3 now, Sega Rally twin, cocktail and Upright Mame and still not enough :)

Saw Steve's Egret 3 and love in love with it, need a Candy now, coz as of yet I have still no experience with Jamma, I got spare Xbox 360 and Powerful PC that be great hooked up to a nice Candy Jamma, Mame, Xbox and on it :)

Ill email jeff and see what he has, I dont mind waiting but definitely between now and summer,
Hopefully have a candy, Thanks as always buddy!!!

    Hey o1s1n,

Update for you, I got onto Jeff by email, great reply from him in all fairness,
E2 e3 rare, but he got range Sega's from Blast City, Astros, New Astros in Stock.
They mostly 2Player and Atomiswave SD but they 1P. Shipping from approx 120 stg, so not too shabby.

I get the feeling he extremely busy and you might be hard to pin him down
and that a lot of his Cabs may need work but that he have them in good nick b4 he ships them,.
Anyone know what kind of Turn Around timewise he cabs are from ordering to shipped and his after Service?
Eitherway I got good vibe especially that he seems to be in business for such long time,
and also that he has a lot of stock in and out.

Now to decide, My Preference is Egret II or III but they are rare, I do like Atomiswaves too but find 1P
less attractive than a 2P Panel, I wouldnt mind Custom Panel even if its from an Egret III.

For me I want a 29' triSync with VGA so can hook up Xbox and Mame PC without ArcadeVga if possible
and also look into start collecting dedicated Boards, whether its some combo of MVS, JVS, Jamma in same cab?
That side of things be new to me but be nice to have something original vs Mame.

My doors are 31.5 inch - 80cm so should have any issues with any of Candy Cabs I reckon?
Nice overview of Candy Dimensions here:
    http://home.insightbb.com/~ecousticforkris/blast.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_arcade_cabinets#Blast_City

Im leaning towards Atomiswave SD but Blast City also seems to have trisync its cool look to it and has lots nice features?
" If you want 15/24/31khz video, you have it. This can all be accomplished via D-sub15 connector or VGA as it's commonly known. FYI, no, the monitor is still not easy to rotate, it is however easier to access than the Astros."

Anyone like to talk up their Candy Cab, Pros and Cons for them? :)
Astros, Blast City, Atomiswaves or hold off for EgretII?

I really hate threads like these - because they make me want to get another Candy Cab and then I start rationalising retro stuff I could sell off to pay for said Candy Cab, but I know I'd regret selling some of my collection.....

Anyway - if your doors are all 80cm and this is the exact width, you should have no issue squeezing through any of the general candy cabs.

I currently own a New Astro City, which I bought from Ronnie (http://rklok.nl/). It was originally 15/25khz, but I had him change the chasis for €150 to support 30khz and to have a D-sub15 plug on it. Great service from him and he even threw in a free game. I chose the New Astro City, because it was the first Candy Cab I'd ever played on in Japan, so there was a bit of nostaliga attached to it.

The downside to the NAC is the fact its plastic or at least mostly plastic, whereas the new cabinets like the AWSD are mostly metal. They are all basically the same, and can all be setup to perform the same functions. It all comes down to the look of the cabinet you want.

Finally regarding the statement about rotating the monitors, its pretty easy on the Astros, and from what I read on the Atomiswaves it looks a lot more involved. Egrets probably have the easiest life having the rotatable chasis builtin. Its also amazing to think that its easier to get an Atomiswaves and Astros are easier to get than the Egrets, as they barely have a presence in Japan. Give it a year or two and there will be nothing but Egrets for sale, as the arcades start selling them off !

now time for gratuitous Candy video !

Thanks for that! Looks like you got some great info from him. You're pretty much in the same position as me regarding Egret II/Versus everything else. I'd love one but I really don't want to wait any longer.

Did you get any prices for specific cabs? Just wondering if there is must of a difference, he quoted €600 for an AWSD which seems very reasonable.

I wouldn't know too much about the Blast City cab myself (didn't know up until now that it has a try sync)

As for original boards, most of them are set up to connect to Jamma. Some need an adapter though (Naomi for example) but most of the stuff you'll want to play will just be plugged directly into your cab (MVS, CPS1, CPS2 etc)

Haha Ondafly, SAME HERE !!!! o1s1n those pics you thru up was the last straw,
I want one, i want one, i want one... :)
Great stuff on Astro Info, plus i like that there be a lot more E2's over next few years.
Also nice Video, I got to admit I am a 'CAVE' virgin :) haha,
But this week i have just downloaded mame 0.145 set and all the cave , but just need time to get them all up and running.
Going to have another copy of mame running on same server as my 0.131 set which as so many broken roms.
So hopefully over next week or do ill get play a bit of Ketsui...

I got no prices yet, but seems his shipping prices are better than ronnies,
I might give him a call there and try get few prices off him and let ye know and what turnaround he has once ordered.

Maybe over next 3 years might have few candys in a line in spare room,
AtomisWave SD, Astro, Blast City, and Egret... I guy can dream cant he :) !!!

    I want another one now.
I would have gone for blast city when I was getting one but they are 10mm
wider than an Astro city so decided against it as my door frames only had 2mm give for the Astro
The shape and design of them just grab me as my favourite candy.
    I Love the Marquee space
    blast_np01.jpg

Like a sexy tarted up Astro city, out for a good time.

I'll get ya next time b1tch, when either you lose a bit of weight or I get more width

haha Ya the more pics added the more im craving one,
and im fickle its which ever Candy Cab Ive seen last at bottom of thread looks prettiest :) haha

No Seriously, After after rough day on adverts with Console issue and Carling Cup Final Tickets fell through so no time to get onto Jeff and off to london for final this wkend so follow this up more next week.

But well worth a Share, Jeffs stuff is all up on Ebay.co.uk,
I had seen this b4 but didnt relise it was Jeff's cabs.
If Im buying something id love to see it 1st but if not a load of detail is great,
And boy theres a plenty detail given on his Ebay shop, worth a share me thinks...
    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/digitalsystemsdesign/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

    1 * New Astro for 495 stg = 585e
    2 * Blast Citys for 625 stg, 740euros
JVS Power Wiring Harness Not Fitted (not clue whats this is)
Sega Amplifier Bypassed (sound slike good idea)
    Buttons replaced where defective
HK$ Mech Fitted - can be replaced with UK coin mech if required at additional cost

    http://www.rklok.nl/
Ronnie has Astro for 495e and Blast City for 645e,
but shipping might be bit dearer and Jeffs cabs have better paint work.

At Present Leaning towards Atomiswave or Blast City if no Egret can be found
Although those pop out speakers on Astro look like awesome shelves as used by others here :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

I got my Astro of Ronnie for that price.

I must say it was in top condition and arrived quickly
Others here have had problems with him though. They are Astro's he's selling though and not New Astros ...so no speaker shelf on them and no amp.

Also just to note,I noticed the Blast Citys both sellers offer for that price have original monitor, which I've read have been known to run into a good few problems/defects in there lifespan, also issues with connecting other hardware like Pc's/xboxs.
But either seller could swap them out with a bit of persuasion I'd say.
