Mynute 14SE banging noise

    Hello,

We have a Mynute 14SE which has started to make this banging noise every 5 seconds or so. The gauge is at 1, but fluctuates slightly when it starts to bang.

The noise is like an empty kettle but a bit deeper, it literally bangs about 7 times before it stops and then starts again a few seconds later.

We will most likely get someone to have a look at it but it might not be for another week since we are renting and the landlord sometimes is hard to get. Would anyone know if this is a known problem and if its safe to use the boiler for the next week or two?

    Kai.

It is a known problem. There is a restriction in the heat exchanger from Scale or sludge or both. You could try lowering the temperature dial on the boiler but this will only work for a while. Best solution would be to get an RGI to change the heat exchanger in the boiler. Don't know if it will last a week or two. It will get worse and trip out on high temp due to poor circulation around the boiler.

    Thanks for the reply!

When It was last serviced he said the heat exhanger was going and the whole boiler would need to be replaced. It is a problem known to the landlord so we are going to go ahead and phone the guy who serviced it tomorrow.

Thanks again for the very informative reply.

Johnnie is spot on , i had to change my sisters over the xmas on a vokera mynute 16e
i even tried removing the heat exchanger to power flush it on its own but even that wouldnt work, so i flushed the system and fitted a new heat exchanger.

I wouldn't flush the heat exchanger, if it has been Kettling it will be already heat damaged and likely to leak at the seems very shortly.

I have tried stuff like dc40 in the past with limited success, all in all not worth the time and effort, without treating the system (cleanse, flush, inhibit) and fitting a new heat exchanger how could I provide any type of warranty?
