    Fu#cking hell,thought I'd got on a gentle 20 to 30 mile spin today.After only 5 miles breathing out of my back.I suppose I'm 44 so that's to be expected.I'm disappointed though.

Don't be. Unless you keep it up or substitute it with other exercise you will get out of shape.

I have a short commute to work every day. I stopped doing long commutes with the dark evenings. I went out on my first long cycle in ages a few weeks back. I was banjaxed with the first big hill. I'm easing myself back into it while eating a little better as well and it's getting easier. I'm 'only' 34 :)

It'll get easier for you in no time at all.

You must take it easy at your age.Only joking everyone feels like this after a long time off the bike,Give yourself a break.Just keep pedaling and be consistent:)

Don't be too disheartened. @Darkglasses posted in the general thread above about how he took great pleasure in finishing his longest cycle today. Positve mental attitude and all the rest.... it willl come back. In fairness as well it was a sufferfest type of day in that wind.

She's a cruel 2-wheeled mistress, of that there is no doubt. Turn your back on her for a few months and she'll whip your a$$.

Take her out again and show her who's boss :)

That was my exact thought a few weeks back too!
I hadn't cycled since Aug, for me the biggest surprise was how the saddle felt like a razor blade. I'm well on the road back now so take a week or two before hitting it hard, then no mercy!!

Just keep telling yourself you're only 24. After a while you'll start believing it. Problem solved.
    I'm disappointed though.
Understandable but you won't feel like that for long. One good thing about coming back after a long layoff is that improvement is pretty much guaranteed. All you have to do is get back out on your bike again pretty soon, after giving yourself 2 or 3 days to recover. It's almost certain that you'll go further, at a higher average speed and won't feel as winded either. Then you can report back here, somewhat less disappointed. Go on, give it a lash!
