Anyone else considering a solo ski trip?

I'm back from a fantastic ski trip and am considering another one in Austria in March. Haven't ever skied alone before but as my friends are either squeezed for cash or annual leave, I'm thinking about it now, rather than wasting my annual leave here. Anyone else in same predicament and interested in talking about a trip?! Alternatively, any tips from previous solo skiers would be appreciated :)

It's really not that scary going skiing on your own.

You get to ski as much as you want without having to wait around for people. And there are plenty of other people around resort to socialise with, or not, according to whatever you want to do, again without having to wait on or be rushed around by your mates.

Also there is a lot less people to try and please when picking where to go.

Was half thinking about doing the same myself. This forum might be of use ...

I LOVE skiing on my own. You get to ski at your own pace, on all the runs that you like, stop and eat when you want, and really zen out on all the white.

I'm a bit of a slow starter in the morning, need several cups of coffee to get me to clip up my boots and get on the lift. But once I'm going, I keep going. I've been known to eat a sandwich going up on a chairlift so I don't have to waste good skiing time eating. You can only do that if you're skiing on your own.

No time wasted hanging round for everyone to get their stuff sorted out. And if you decided you want to get extra wax on your skis or whatever, you are not holding up a group.

One thing that sometimes worries solo skiers is what happens if you are injured. Having had it happen to me, I can assure you that you won't be left on the side of a mountain all night. If you are on your own, everyone seems to jump in to help. I got really great care and no hassle. If I'd been with a group, I'm pretty sure the group would have been expected to do a lot of organising, but as it was, I got treated like royalty.

I would definitely prefer skiing solo but the only thing I would be concerned about is the apres ski/going to bars at night. How did you guys work around that?

Going to the bars is never really a problem, everyone else is out to have a good time and socialise. Just get stuck in and you'll be fine. There is always the options of the tour reps bar crawls and such like if you need a bit of a push.

Is there an Irish ski club trip/ championship thingy this year ?

that could be an option op

No problem with the bars. When you are on your own, you can chat to anyone. It's much harder to meet locals when you are part of a group.

    +1

Have a look in the `where are you going this year` thread too and see if there are people heading to somewhere you might fancy going.

If you go to the tourist office they sometimes have guiding days around the mountain and also the ski club of GB used to do guiding days in certain resorts maybe you could tag along with one of them or a tour op guide?

I am heading out on my own on the 3rd March to the PDS and although meeting with others on the Monday I will he travelling on my own and skiing all day Sunday on my ownsome!
