Has anyone tried to do this before? I'm thinking of selling an electric guitar on eBay, but I've never done it before. I'm particularly interested in how people manage shipping etc.

I wouldn't bother selling, too much hassle and expensive shipping. And then if something goes wrong in the shipping process you'll have to refund the buyer and be out the cost of a guitar/repairs.

Make an account on www.adverts.ie and stick it up there instead, it's free and gets quite a lot of footfall.

No reason not to put it on ebay just because you don't want to ship it though - just mark is as "local pick up only".

Buyers can filter searches based on location so it might be worth it.

Instruments section gets plenty of attention on adverts.ie so I would go with that for convenience.
Beware of muppets with ridiculous offers is all I would say......

Cool, OK. Might not be worth the hassle. I had it up on adverts.ie but it's been quiet for a while so thought I might try a different approach. I'll leave it up there and see how it goes.

All of these selling platforms have their weaknesses. Adverts has the chumps, who are in the majority. Gumtree has the scammers. Ebay has the shipping issues.

    Ebay has the shipping issues.

    What are the shipping issues?

I sold an Aria Sinsonido travel bass on eBay last year after failing to shift it on Advert.ie.

No problems with shipping really - you can specify an amount for national and/or international buyers or leave buyers to contact you. The An Post website has a good shipping calculator based on weight so just weigh up your packaged guitar and you know what to charge.

The Sinsonido, to my surprise, sold to a guy in Canada and the postage worked out at €70 which he had no problem with.
