Do they screw you like Ryanair do? I have no bag to check in so can I just go to the check in desk and get a boarding pass printed or do they charge you extra?

    Thanks in advance:)

There is no fee to check in in person when travelling with Aer Lingus. You can check in at a desk or use the self-service kiosks if they're available.

aer lingus have nifty little machines in the checkin area that you can use to print out your boarding pass saving you queueing up to get one from a human being at the checkin area.

Theres also the odd one at the carpark adjacent to terminal 2.

Either way, there no extra charge whether online, on a terminal or from a mamber of staff at the counter

If you've an iPhone you can check in online with the Aer Lingus app even, I think it also works with those cheap android ones too.

There's a limited selection of routes that mobile check in is available for. There's a range of apps for overpriced iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Nokia and Windows

it might seem like a stilly question, but for the routes supported do you also get a virtual boarding pass upon checking in on your mobile device?

Lufthansa have mobile checkin now for about 10 years BUT it was checkin in the literal sense of the word - notifying them you are coming and allocation of seat (and ensuring you arent bumped off an overbooked flight!!!!!) - but you still had to retrieve your pass at the airport from a machine.

EDIT: in case anyone asks, yes i did check the aerlingus website and they only mention "checkin" and nothing about boarding passes.

I haven't used it myself actually but I think you get a bar code on the screen of your mobile which they scan, I could be wrong though.

Yeah, it's a QR code and they scan the screen of your phone. One of my travelling companions used it when we were travelling last weekend. It's pretty good, but it's not available at all airports yet.

Had an iPhone until Christmas this year....they over hyped and no where as good as the Samsung Galaxy S2.... wireless coneection is far superior and the screen is bigger and the resolution is incredible.... and they not cheap.... anyway the app I have for Aer Lingus on my android device is excellent..the QR code for checking in is very handy and lst time I used it there were people in the queue all curious as to why my phone was getting swiped instead of an A4 page!

if using the app, take a screenshot of the barcode because if you don't have a connection at the gate the barcode won't load.

DAA staff won't handle the phones either, presumably in case they drop them and are held liable.

Heathrow staff are happy to handle them.
