Not sure that I understand this substitution of like for like. I have a 20 and want to trade it in and get a 12 as replacement. Both are / will be o/u, but the bore/gauge is not the same, so do I have to sell the 20 and apply for new licence for the 12? Or just get the original licence amended with new gun details?

Its a crap answer but it really is up to your Super/FO.

They are both shotguns, both unrestricted, both O/U. However with one being a different caliber to the other they may want a new application.

Only thing i can suggest is to use the FCA1 and go for a substitution. I mean lads change a .223 to a .243 rifle all the time so i cannot see why they would not do it.

Try. If they contact you and say they cannot process as a sub then do the full application.

Last year I tried to sub one of my 12g for a .410 and I was told I had to apply from scratch again, so that's what I had to do. Doesn't make sense at all
