I am looking to buy a 13.3 portable laptop with decent specs that I could use as a desktop. I have 2 questions..

    1) Is it possible to plug it into two screens via a HDMI port and VGA port?

    2) Would an i3 with 4GB RAM and integrated graphics power two screens sufficiently at 1600x1200 resolution for software development type work (not gaming or multimedia editing). Would there be any need for a separate graphics card?

Hi pa_, what laptop are you thinking of. I know you can get a docking station or port-replicator for systems like the Dell Latitude/Vostro. These will have multiple connections for monitors.

Something like an Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3830T, or maybe a HP or Sony alternative.

The new Acer/other brand ultra books look nice, but are a bit more expensive right now.

Don't think ultrabooks have VGA ports and only one HDMI. They are not really desktop/laptop replacements.

Yeah, it would be an unnecessary gimmick anyway since a regular 13 would be perfect for what I want it for - provided I can run it through 2 high resolution screens effectively..
