These type of threads tend to pop up every few weeks.

Don't let other people tell you what type of car you should buy. Buy the car you can afford and want.

Better off talking to a guy called Owen on here, he is the resident expert on the them. He will give you the low down on them.

First cars inevitably lead a hard life - i'd start off on something cheaper.

True, first cars tend to have it tougher (God knows, mine did!), but personally I love the Cooper and I'd have one tomorrow, funds permitting. It's just not practical for me at the moment.
The GF drives an MX5 and I don't care what anyone says, it's a hoot.
One might argue that a pink Micra convertible is a tad girly, but in the end it's about what makes you happy.
No point driving something you're not happy with, sure why not!

OP, the first thing you need to do before looking at any car is make sure you can afford to insure it. I reckon a MINI Cooper will be expensive enough to insure for someone as a first car.

buy what you want a dont give a toss what anyone else thinks. at the end of the day no one buys a car for you so why should you buy your car for them!

age and licence depending get a few quotes on cooper, if you have no NCB and are on a lerners permit you may pay true the nose for insurance

Buy what you like. It's only a girls car if it's a figaro.
