    Hi,

Im looking for suggestions on what to wear to a summer wedding in Spain that I have been invited to.

I was thinking a light wool suit, with an open collar and no tie, too casual ???

No, I don't think it would be too casual. We were at a wedding in Italy last year, and while the groom etc were in full getup, the rest of the men were relatively more casual, linen pants and shirts, lighter suits with no tie etc. I think the whole atmosphere at sunshiney weddings is more relaxed anyway so as long as you are looking smart you'll be grand :)

    (woman's point of view obviously!)

I think a linen suit might be more suitable as the heat in Spain in the summer can fairly intense especially if you're not near the coast or getting any sort of breeze.

I've been to summer weddings in central Europe, Spain and the Canaries. About 90% of the males attending were wearing linen suits, shirts open at the neck and no ties. A good linen suit, just like a wool suit will last you years if you get the right one..

Suit: Silk, silk-mix or linen, in a lighter colour such as beige. Single breasted, two or three piece.

Celeste (turquoise) shirt. Discrete cuff-links. Silk tie, preferably pale yellow (if following the above colour set) and certainly not anything 'bright'. Tanned or brown leather soled shoes. Sunglasses.

Open up the side pockets in case you need to remove and store the tie (either later in the day or if you arrive and are the only one with a tie). Take special care if served gazpacho.

Marks & Spencer will have lovely, excellent quality, linen suits coming into summer.

Depends how much you want to spend. Yes, you could to to M&S for linen (they do this) and have it tailored somewhere. Or you could hit the usual places, like Louis Copeland. I got my wedding suit there. Admittedly, I was not getting a 'groom suit' as I hate those, I wanted something contemporary, me (so I ended up with a newer cut, low waistline, short double-vented jacket). Point is, they were happy to tailor it for me - I had the waistline on the jacket taken in to give me some more shape.

I would skulk around the internet to get some ideas of what tone you might like to hit. There's nothing better than going into a reputable tailor knowing the kind of thing you want and getting their advice on it.

Where are you based on the island and perhaps a member could let you know of a tailor nearby?
