Clunking sound since incident

    Hi everyone,

I was rear-ended a couple of months ago. It was quite the shunt. I'd say the other person was doing at least 30k when they hit me. I was stopped in the middle of the road waiting to turn when I got whacked. My car has a 6 speed DSG, so I was in D with my foot on the brake.

Their insurance covered the repairs. However, I now have a fairly heavy clunking noise coming from underneath me at certain times.

The odd time when I start the car I get a slight clunk. From a standstill if I put down a good bit of power I get the clunk. If I put it in reverse, turn the wheel and put down a bit of sudden power I get a heavy clunk and then when I start to go forward again I get a clunk.

Could the transmission mount have been damaged from the heavy shunt while I was sitting there in D? My car ended up about 4-5 yards away from where it started even though I had my foot on the brake the whole time.

    Thanks.

Much more likely to be that the exhaust is slightly bent and is touching the floor.

What car is it? If its a golf/jetta/octavia/b6 passat/leon etc then the transmisson isn't under the floor anyway.

Sorry, should have told you it's a 2005 Golf Gti.

The transmisson isn't underneath you so.

Thanks. That's a relief. Just bring it to a garage and have them look at it I suppose. If it's the exhaust it shouldn't be a huge job.
