In excel, quite a bit, I need to use:

Paste ---- Paste Special ---- Text

I've figured out how to add a paste special icon but I still have to select 'text' when I click on it. Is there any way (without doing a marco) that I can have a Paste Special, Text shortcut?

Not sure what you mean by text, but CTRL+ALT+V opens the dialog box-as in after you select what you want to copy, hit CTRL+ALT+V instead of right clicking and selecting paste special from the drop down menu.

Thanks - but that is still two steps - the CTRL ALT and V (step one) and then I have to select 'text' from the box that appears (step two).

I want a button that will automatically do this in one step.

For example, I want a button that will go straight to text, as highlighted here
