Asking players to take a 75% pay cut is a disgrace, absolute disgrace.

It's not really. When the choice is either ask them to take the 75% cut or tell them they have no option but take a 100% cut as they are being made redundant then it is fair enough. The players don't have to accept (and indeed they don't seem to be too keen on the idea) and so the administrator can then move on to issuing redundancies with the knowledge that they at least gave the team the option.

They have no choice. The administrators rule the roost now. They can just terminate contracts if they want. So either they take the pay cuts or get thrown out.

    Contract terminations have begun.

    Edit: Gregg Wylde gone

Yeah apparently Gregg Wylde has been released

Gregg Wylde gone according to twitter.

Shame for the lad, but his progress seems to have stalled over the last 6 months or so and has definetly fallen out of favour with the management team.
Still though, i would have expected him to stay given that he's young and has built up a certain amount of experience.

All the best to him in the future.

What is it about contracts in Scotland that allow an Administrator to rip them up where they wouldn't be able to in England?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,406 ✭✭✭Pompey Magnus

McCoist turned down a 400k bid for him 6 months ago from Bolton.

McCoist turned down a 400k bid for him 6 months ago from Bolton.

And then (Allegedly) fell out with him after his sending off earlier in the season.

If a club as big a Rangers are forced to terminate contracts then is the terminatation of contracts at risk of being normalised ?

For example would another club who's hanging on be more inclined to force contract terminations now the Rangers have started ?

Wylde won't find it hard to get another club.

The Administrators at Portsmouth (and other administrations in England) weren't able to get rid of the players even though it was their wages which were by far the largest outgoing for the Club.

    How come?

I was under the impression then when a company is in admin any employees can be made redundant.

Wylde wasn't made redundant, he requested his contract to be terminated. I guess Rangers do do walking away after all...

According to some on twitter Wylde asked to be released and will receive no redundancy

England is the only country where this is the case (and it is being challenged by HMRC), every other country allows contracts be terminated by administrators.

I don't know - that's why I'm asking what makes Rangers different to Leeds or Portsmouth or Southampton or Cardiff. If the administrators at those clubs could have sacked players then I'm sure they would have done. In fact I distinctly remember one SSN article when Pompey were in trouble where the Administrator was bemoaning having to get rid of tea ladies and ground staff earning a tiny fraction of what reserve team players were on.

The PFA is one of the most powerful trade unions in England so perhaps it is a union reg. The Administrators will need to operate within the framework of the industry that the business operates in.

Supposedly Gregg Wylde is first out the door, with Celik closely behind :D

If it's £230,000 a week that's to be saved, and say Celik and Wylde are on what, 10k-15k a week, where do they get the other £215,000+ p/w from???

Is this sinking in yet Bears?

doubt wylde was on more than 5k per week and celik about 7 or 8k.

apparently another 3 have asked to leave also. Gaoin being rumoured.

SSN saying 5 players have requested to leave. The impression seems to be that they are leaving because they won't accept the proposed pay cut, if this is the case then my own guess is that today won't be as bad for Rangers as it had been thought. I am assuming it means the rest of the squad have accepted the pay cut...I might be wrong though.

I believe it was the players idea and they approached the administrators about it.

The administrators have rejected the proposal the players put to them.

Maybe the players will try again when these 5 have walked away.

But they don't do walking away

That's true...when the pay cuts began to look likely they started to run like hell!

The administrators should get tough and just try to cut as many players as possible IMO.

Goian was complaining that he moved over his family and didnt want to be uprooting them again so quickly. Maybe he's changed his mind but still be surprising if he does actually request to leave.

How is Kyle Bartley still on loan? Arsenal still playing most of his wages?
