Possibly Going to Be Scammed on eBay - Advice

    Hey Folks,

I sell some stuff through eBay for work- older items that would never sell in the shop. Each item is physically present beside me when going up on eBay, where possible checked to see if it works and a photo taken of the item in question. Once the sale ends it goes to the same person each and every time who either sends it out by courier or sends it via registered post.

Last week a brand name phone dock sold and was shipped within Ireland. The item was working when put up on eBay. Anywhoo I've received a message that the item is not as described. The winning bidder is telling me that it's not a brand name item but a 'Chinese' unit instead. We've never sold a dock like this and only stocked brand name stuff. They also claim it doesn't have a charging cable- which it wouldn't have as the phone charges when connected to the dock.

They pretty quickly state it's not fair and ask why they should have to pay to ship the item back to us. If it was a genuine mistake on our part (which I don't think it is), we would of course cover the cost of return postage. I've apologized and asked them to send me on a photo at my work address of the item that they've received.

Has anyone heard of anything like this? Is there a scam of some sort coming or am I jumping the gun?

Have they contacted you through ebay messages or have they opened a paypal dispute?
It could be that they are trying it on in the hope you will give a partial refund etc etc, but if these messages are going back and forth via the ebay messaging system, then simply state your refund policy if you have one, and then the seller may or may not take it to a paypal dispute.
If it goes to a dispute, paypal will request that the buyer send the item back to you before a refund is made - you are not obliged to pay for the item to be sent back to you, but if you dont then you risk negative feedback.

If youre sure of the item yourself then I certainly wouldnt give a refund, there are so many scammers on ebay, if they are serious they will take up a case with ebay.

Very strange. They got back to me saying it was XYZ, another item that we had been selling, but they could have gotten that info from our feedback. The buyer said it was OK, they'd hold onto it, leave us positive feedback and bid on another identical item to the one they had originally bought in the first place but that they just wanted to let me know.

Weird. They left positive feedback and that seems to be it.
