BMW 316 E46 - how many rear fog lights?

There's a warning light showing on the dash of my 316 for one of the rear lights being out. All lights in the cluster are fine and working okay. The only thing I can think of is that one of the rear fogs isn't working.

The fog lights are situated in the inner cluster on the boot lid. Only one light gets brighter (compared to running lights) when the rear fogs are switched on - any E46 owners out there who can confirm whether there should be one or two fog lights lighting up?

    Thanks in advance....

    Hi OP

One rear fog light on a E46.

If the warning light is showing on the dash have you check all the lights ?

Also check to see if the lights are the same as it could also be a earthing problem and one light appears dimmer then the other

Yep - checked all the lights and they are all lighting. There was an intermittent issue with the earthing which would cause the indi's to blink fast. On investigation I found the earth lead that plugged into the light clusters had burnt out on both sides. The male and female pins for the earth lead weren't making a decent connection at all. Solution was remove the earth lead from the connector, fit a bullet connector to and wire it in alongside the original connector block. This cured the indi problem and also the issue where LHS rear lights were a bit dimmer than those on the RHS. Will check it all out again to see if I can source the issue.

    Cheers for the tips...
