As I've mentioned lately, I just tried a lovely 30 year old gorosabel sxs and my rfd was good enough to bring me to an old bit of forestry today to have a blast at the clays. Bearing in mind, all I've ever used for clays was my old franchi semi-auto(which I miss dearly) and my current cheap-as-chips mossberg maverick, the daihatsu fourtrack of shotguns(cheap, easy to use and un-killable)which I LOVE shooting. Anyhoo,we had a good clay session and the sxs is lovely to shoot, but I now know the pain of a light game gun used for trap shooting. The old franchi was gas-operated and barely kicked, the mossberg weighs about twelve stone, so is great for clays, but DEAR JESUS, the sxs nearly killed me! Best I've ever shot was 23 clays in a row(mossberg) and I managed 19 with this old baby, but oh my god my shoulder is absolutely fcuked! I fired about 150 shots through it today and I am now a broken man:D But sometimes there is a silver lining, I also got to fire my new CZ550FS 6.5x55 and she is a PEACH:D But for all the people looking to get into trap shooting that may be tempted to buy the cheap old shotgun for 100 quid that's been holding up the bookshelf in the rfd's office, for the love of god, DON'T:D next time I'll save myself the pain and use a 10-bore with a barbed wire stock!
happy shooting everybody, and god bless the recoil pad!
LR(now thinking of changing username to "purple shoulder")

Mount the gun properly and you won't feel any recoil.

if you take your time and mount it in the "pocket" near your under arm you'll be grand no matter what shotgun or loads you fire.
