    Hi all,

I passed my test recently and would like to hire a car for a few weekends. I've heard stories about the price on the rental websites being nothing like the price you end up paying and I'm wondering if they're true?

For reference, I'm 30, I quoted car rental on Enterprise.ie (they seem to be the only company who'll rent to people on new licenses) and I'll have to pick up from the airport (their other offices don't open Sundays). I priced an Opel Astra and it's quoting me €35.92 (rental) + €28 (airport surcharge) and a €250 deposit. Can anyone tell me if €64 is a realistic price?

    Thanks!

Yes if you don't take their insurance which reduces your excess from 1000 to 50e it's about 15e a day

I hired a car from them recently and it was approx €94 for two days including that insurance

Do your research and you will know exactly what they can and cannot charge. Might be worth getting the excess cover either through them or an independant company. With that, you can hand the car back on its roof and it wont cost you.

a lot of car rental companies will not rent to you if you've just passed your test, you need to have your full licence for 1 full year from passing your test.

I forgot to reply to this thread. Rented the car from Enterprise and was charged exactly what the website said. The insurance had an excess of €1,200 but you can reduce it to €100 by taking out additional insurance for €15 per day or using the company ballooba recommended above.

    Thanks for your help :)
