Quick one guys. Which 7 seater would you go for with a budget of 7000. reliability is most important & im not bothered by looks.

Do you need 7 seats, do you need a boot, do you need 7 seats and a boot at the same time, do you have a limit on how much road tax you'll pay, do you do much mileage?

2000 to 2006 Ford Galaxy, VW Sharan or Seat Alhambra

    Very solid reliable cars.

Sorry, should have mentioned. Low tax is important, so a 1.6 will do fine. It will be used for the school run ( 3 miles daily ) & 80 mile trip every 3 weeks.

I have debated the need for a 7 seater for a while now. I think its the best option. Boot space is important for the dog:o

So how many seats will you actually use?

Driver + 3 child car seats & most likely a 4th child seat in a year or so. I plan to have this car for at least 5 + years so I dont wont to buy a smaller car now only to have to sell it in 12 - 18 months from now.

    Do u need seven seats?
All the seven seaters have no boot with seven seats in..
Galaxy would be my choice or a fiat ulysse if u need 7.
I've a multipla...most people laugh at them but anyone who ever gets into it is amazed at the versatility and reluctantly admits they really like it!!
6 seated 3 across the front 3 across the back..AND has a boot!!
Back seats clip out in seconds leaving a huge boot and you still have 3 seats across the front.
    And there's heaps if space.
No sils to trip over..really high driving position and come in a 1.6 petrol which would suit your needs.
Aircon and twin sunroofs in the elx models.
There are tatty ones out there but there are well minded ones too that are every bit as reliable as anything else out there.

I've always had toyotas so was going for the verso but it felt awful tinny really low down driving position and generally cramped.
Looked at a few others but none had the space of the multipla.. And it's shorter than a golf.
    Marty.

I'd probably go for a galaxy or sharan TDI.

Corolla verso would be fine now, but it'll be a squeeze with 4 kids and buggies etc.

Get a six seater if there's only six of ye!!
All the 7 seaters compromise with the boot because of the third row if seats.

The other option to my above recommendation is the Honda FRV.

Does the back 2 seats in the galaxy fold flat?

They don't fold into the floor.

The rearmost seats of the smaller 7 seaters, corolla verso, zafira, grand scenic, etc... are not really suitable for child seats. Either a full fat 7 seater or one of the 6 seaters mentioned would be a better bet.

We've a Stream and I'd have to concur with the poster - it's reliability is bulletproof. But is is a small MPV in so far as it won't take 7 adults comfortably and the middle seat in the 2nd row is only a lapbelt and won't take a carseat.

However, from a comfort and reliability, I found it second to none. I have 3 kids 6,4 and 3 and no problems with space (even with a Phil and Ted's buggy in the boot). Also find it suitable when I need to transport their friends and I've had the full compliment of 7 in it (5 kiddies and 2 adults)

Nonetheless, when the kids get older, i.e. teenage we will need a bigger bus and then we'll go for the Galaxy / Sharon type cars.

I've a Zafira for a family car, we've 3 young kids, a 3 year old and 17 month twins and the Zafira is perfect. Really good size boot and with you sitting up higher it's really easy strapping the kids in without breaking your back. I have had 7 people in the car before but that is very rare, maybe once or twice a year and there was no complaint from the people in seats 6 & 7 but you won't get a buggy in too but you will still get a buggy and loads of luggage in if just one of the fold up seats are being used. I will be getting another to replace this one but I'm going for a vxr next :)

    Im viewing a VW Touran, 2005, 1.6

Is there anything I should look out for?
When is the timing belt due?

    Thanks all

The Zafira really is a fine car and IMO the best value 7 seater out there. We've have a 2007 1.6 nad believe me it's not heavy on petrol. My wife had an Octavia before that and that was every bit as thirsty as the Zafira. The 2 extra seats are a blessing. The boot with them up is not good at all but with them down is very very good.

VW Touran with 1.4 TSI could fulfill your needs. As usual for this class boot space with 3 row of seats is almost to nothing. I have this in automatic pretty good in power and consumption of petrol quite nece too, for the city 9-10l per 100km and around 7-7,5l on a highway.

Far as I know the 1.4 TSI only came out here in 2008, meaning any ones will be around €5k over budget.

I was thinking it would have to be one of the newish engines VW brought out, almost as surprising as a 1.2 unit getting an Octavia around ;)
