Tyre Preferences?

    Hi All,

I'm just wondering what the general consensus is on tyre manufacturers and which is better? Is there much difference between the main brands?

I've always prefered Bridgestone over everything else, but someone recently said they reckon Conti's are a much better tyre.

    Any opinions?

I've heard a lot of bad reports about the brand Triangle but never a bad word said about their latest Square range

I'll take it that Triangle are brutal so...

    Yep!

What are you fitting the tyres to?

In general Chinese brands (anything with an unfamiliar name is a good guide) are worth avoiding at all costs.

I like Bridgestones myself but they can wear quickly. Great grip though, better than most brands. Currently using Hankook as I find them a good compromise between wear and handling. Not the best but fine for motorway driving

    They're going onto a Corrado.

I'm looking to do a turbo conversion in the near future, so whatever rubber goes on needs to be decent.

    Same as above
Bridgestone on my car when new
Replaced both fronts with Hankook, To be honest I can push it just the same and can find no difference.

Have any pictures of the Corrado?

I've helped out a few friends in the past with them so may be able to give some advice about it.

    What Turbo are you fitting?

Running Hankooks (all season Optimo 4s) at the moment and rather like them.

I have Cooper Zeon XTC's before and although they wore quickly in my opinion they offered rather good grip. I believe that Avon are also the same company as Cooper so you could look into them.

Gonna have a bash at some Goodyear all seasons next time round.

Depends on the car also. As I drive a 12 year old Golf Estate I do not rally around the place nor do I have a car that is very powerful so that would be why the Hankooks I have and the Coopers I had would suit my wagon well.

My dad has an E class 270 CDI and I would not put the Hankooks on that as I think the car would be too powerful, but that is an uneducated guess.

My mams Corrola had Event tyres which slid around dangerously at any attempt at speed through a roundabout or corner. I do not mean speeding but my mam is a slow driver, I am talking about just pushing it a bit and nearing the speed limits on regional roads.

I have since fitted two Hankooks (cant remember the model) and the back of the car is much more planted but the front is still sliding around.

It's not just the brand, there are different ranges within each brand that are completely different tyres. It's a pet hate when I phone up for tyre prices and they have a "Bridgestone for €100".

    As I said already
I have bridgestones on my car when bought new. Fronts wore out and I put Hankooks.
I now feel I can plant my right foot with a lot more confidence with the Hankooks in wet or dry.
They are fitted to an octavia vRS tdi with similar performance as the merc E270 cdi, Granted the Merc would have more torque but mine being a FWD is damn hard to get the power down in the wet

OP deserves nothing better than Sunny's for the way he's treated his father. Wandering off like that by himself......

I mean the Optimo 4S rather then the brand.

That is what I should have stressed more in my post and what gpf101 has mentioned.
