I cant see how these are HTPC cases?????

A HTpc is a component piece that should either be small and discreet like a STB or look like a hifi seperate.

These are clunking great towers suitable for a backend system which doesnt make them htpc machines at all.

i take it a "backend" system is just a htpc hidden off in another room with just the likes of the remote receiver eye and hdmi cables going to the tv?

Thats a full size tower, imagine a M-Itx board in there, it would be lost

The HTPC cases seem to have improved cooling options over the LC13 / LC17, with room for bigger fans, which is always a good thing. Did anyone catch the size of the rear fans?

No, A backend system would be a PC which houses media and media streaming software and also houses tuner cards and a TV backend like Myth Tv, DVB Logic or media portal to be played out on a frontend system or an extender.

This allows you to have a loud server with cooling fans and lots of disks stored somewhere else and have a quiet low power unit attached to your TV in the livingroom.

I have a large-ish case for my htpc (antec fusion remote .... NOT the max) and these things just would not fit under the tv.... also, 7 or 8 drives in a htpc is just mental

Micro-ITX and no fans or moving parts FTW.

If I want a case for storage I'll hide it away somewhere so it doesn't need to be anything fancy, deffo not anything like this case. I don't see the point of it TBH.

    Re: Fans.
I was always against fans in a HTPC case but I found it would get to hot. Also wanted a small FF but I found it was too restrictive if you wanted to add another card.

I put together a new HTPC before xmass using Lian Li HTPC-Chassis PC-C33B case with 2x80mm and 1x140mm fan. I swapped out the fans for the be quiet! Dark Wings and used a ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 13 for the CPU. The chassis fans run at 500rpm and the CPU fan as 800rpm, the CPU runs at about 25deg. You cannot hear the fans from 1m. I have an SSD boot drive and added a 1TB 2.5 drive for storage. You could still hear the 2.5 HDD so I put it into a Scythe Quiet Drive 2,5", passiver. You can just about hear it if you are 1m away and dont move. The 2.5 HDD I used is a Samsung HM-M101MBB 1TB, I had an older 320gig 2.5 in the passiver previously and you could hear that from the couch.

A small htpc case doesn't suit everybody .

I have a Silverstone CW02 , which is one of the bigger htpc cases available .

Mine runs very quietly , as I have a 12cm Noctua fan exhausting warm air from it and I have my storage drives set to spin down after 15 mins of inactivity .

I also have a passive cpu cooler - Xigmatek Thor's Hammer , and when the drives are spun down , it's silent .

    In the one case I have 6 hard drives , 3 DVB-S tuners , a DVB-T tuner , a sata controller card , a Sapphire 5770 Vapor-X graphics card and a BluRay drive .

Try squeezing all that into a small case - you can't .

The reason I went with such a large case is because I had no intention of building a seperate server to hold my media .

The new cases are nice , The GD08 looks like an updated LC17 .
I wonder why they didn't just replace it in the range with the new one .

The GD07 is nice , 4 external drive bays (suitable for a hot swap bay , fan controller etc.) , and a clutter free front panel .

Silverstone don't seem to be offering their newer models from the Grandia range (GD 03 , 05,06 ,07,08)in silver , only black

I also don't see why an MCE compatible IR sensor can't be standard on a HTPC case , it would save on having a usb reciever sitting on top of the case .

I think these things are ugly to be honest. Even the image of it in that fancy sitting room on their site looks terrible. It's like a giant box sitting in your room and looks like an eyesore to me.

Just get yourself an NAS stashed away somewhere and a small form factor HTPC for the sitting room, seriously.

Exactly, would love that - but will still buy the case either way.

Can anyone find this for sale anywhere? I haven't been able to, and I really want it. It's a problem.

Not on any of these sites?

I'm liking Silverstone cases as well but they're so expensive, crazy to drop 150 euro on a case alone.

Nope not on any of those sites. I ordered a Zalman HD501 Home Theatre PC Case instead. I'd expect that Silverstone case to cost more than 150 euro. Probably a good bit more.
