Getting dole while working

    Hi

    I am due to start a job next week. The job pays monthly. I will be without money for four weeks if I am off the dole. Is there any way I can be on the dole while I am working before I get my first job payment. Reason being how am I supposed to travel to work for the first four weeks?

    No. You will have to sign off the dole.

    I do vaguely remember anecdotal evidence of people being given the dole and then paying it back. But I imagine that it wasn't the actual dole, more the exceptional needs payment.

    I would say ring the central SW office and enquire as to what the procedure is and then contact your local community welfare officer.

    The fact that you won't be paid for a month is immaterial as well it should be. You will technically be earning even though the financial return is at a later date.

    get a loan from family or go to your credit union, they might help you seeing that now you have work.
