I heard about it through a friend who is a chemistry and physics teacher. He gave me the first two seasons on DVD.

I just tend to buy a lot of dvds, and sometimes just take a chance with tv shows. Saw the first season boxset in HMV, knew I'd heard the name but couldn't even remember hearing if it was good or not, and just decided to take a chance. Didn't even know if it was meant to be a comedy or drama or action (didn't know it'd be all three and much more).

    Reckless spending pays off :D

On a thread called something like "What to watch after I have watched The Wire, Sopranos" Etc.

Am i ever so glad I looked at that thread that day!!

I actually started watching online during season 1, started around episode 3. I had seen an ad on one site that contained a clip of the opening scene with the handheld cam - instantly hooked.

I let season 3 go about halfway through because of streaming issues, then caught up on the whole thing in one day. Did season 4 week to week as it aired too. Will end up doing the same with 5 i think.

A friend in the States put me on to it. He told me it was very unusual in that you actually felt sorry for a person making drugs..

Didn't believe I could feel any sympathy until I watched the series.

It's great. Mind you, I'm not a prude, but, I felt the sex scenes were far too explicit and totally uncalled. They didn't add anything to the story. I was told they they were not in the version that he watched.

    Sex scenes??

i remember watching the pilot when it first aired, and never watched it again, well not till halfway through season 3, was in the buddies one night and he was starting a rewatch so we cracked a few brews and watched the first 4 eps,

    bang i was hooked :)

    One in particular.

1st episode I think. He is in bed with her going asleep. She's reading a book. As far as I remember, he didn't want sex in case it hurt the baby or some thing like that. She puts her hand over and starts to "massage" him under the blanket, while she continuing to read.

Try watching that with your teenage children in the room, who are not watching it, but just happen to look at the TV at that moment.

I saw an ad for it on a website then started streaming it online. At that stage I had 2 series to get through, I started by watching an ep before bed, had a very sleep deprived week getting through them all... Ok one more episode then I'll go to sleep... **** it's 4am!!!

I found it hard to get into season 4 thought it was veeeery slow to get going so I stopped watching until the whole season had aired in the states. It was amazing when it did finally get going, very glad I watched it til the end! Hopefully Season 5 will be filmed soon.

Lost ended. I was like WTF am i gonna watch now?!

Mate of mine, fellow boardsie suggested BB but i expected it to be kinda like dexter, which i dont really like. But i moved and had no internet, no sky for a while and he shared some episodes up until where it was on tv in america at that stage.
It was that epic episode with the Salamanca cousins that he said "Watch these, it keeps getting very epic, i dont want you to miss out."

Does anyone wish they just heard about it and their voyage of breaking bad discovery starts now??

I want to be a BB Virgin!!

A friend told me to watch it. When he told me it was Hal from malcom in the middle making meth I had to watch it. Its probally one of the greatest tv series Ive ever seen, cant wait for season 5.

Like Frag420, I think it was in one of those "what to watch next" threads, but I can't really remember.
Starting watching just after season 3 ended, so watching season 4 week to week was interesting (and nerve breaking ;) )

Nearly everyone I've told about the show are hooked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,028 ✭✭✭TheMilkyPirate

I watched the pilot a good while ago now but never watched anymore. I've a lot more free time on my hands now so i'm going to start watching it tonight :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭Smarmy

I first heard about the show as it was being launched and knew of Cranston as I always liked Malcolm in the Middle and he was in several episodes of Seinfeld too. The premise of the show interested me. I wasn't able to watch it until last Christmas however as I didn't have a laptop for a year or so and couldn't download them, nor did I have Sky so couldn't see the first season on FX or whatever channel it was on. I watched them all back to back last christmas, well the first 3 seasons and I was hooked instantly

I had heard about it before, my old flat mate was raving about it, I saw it on Netflix and thought I'd give the first episode a whirl. Glad I did, I'm about halfway through season 4 at the moment now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,988 ✭✭✭SirDelboy18

My friend mentioned it one day and I took no notice. I then acquired the first two seasons but didn't watch them for around a year.

I think I started Christmas 10'. Possibly the best show currently on T.V.

As i sat there with all my fav tv shows off the air. Lost ended, 24 ended, i was pondering the rest of days. "What will I do??"

I was lost in a sea of crap tv, i started to drink heavily and threw my sky box out the window when jersey shore began being shown here.

After that, with no tv, i started to take some serious amounts of drugs, eventually taking up meth... As I was off my biscuit one day, i thought.
"a show about this drug would be freakin awesome."

Off to google i went - meth+tv show+ awesomeness out the ass.

I watched the entire first season in 2 days.

I no longer take drugs or drink. Im now converted to the church of Heisenberg....

I was studying in America and an American friend of mine just got Netflix and started watching the show so a few of us ended up spending our nights drinking beer and watching Breaking Bad. What made it even more epic is we rented a projecter from the college for free and used the white wall in the dorm as a massive screen. Epic!

A friend showed me a few episodes. Thought it was quite promising but forgot about it for a few months. Then watched all the seasons in a short period of time. Now really looking forward to the next series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭johnmcdnl

IMDB said it was good - so I watched it

how I end up watching most shows tbh - very good strategy for finding good tv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,984 ✭✭✭✭kippy

I haven't watched any series in ages and generally dont watch much TV. However for various reasons (college work/study) and having heard an awful lot about it, I watched all seasons of The wire in the past 5/6 weeks. I was gutted when I had gotten through them.
I wondered where to go next. I decided to give Dexter a try and watched series one of that last week. It was OK but I amn't greatly anticipating season 2.
While out with a few mates at the weekend one of them recommended BB.
I watched the first and second episodes last night. Am well impressed and will be continuing. When I'm finished I'll have a go at Season 2 of Dexter.

Watched in preparation for moving to Albuquerque!

Not quite as dodgy in real life, although I have now played poker with two dudes with facial (gang) tattoos :)

I had heard of the show and just took a chance on the DVD of the first season as I had a voucher to spend.

Now I'm mid way through Season 3 and hooked, absolutely love this show!

Heard of it through recommended shows post on the Television forum, was out in crutches for 2 months so ended up watching 4 seasons over a matter of 3 weeks

Think I saw a thread about it on Boards, looked it up on IMDB and it had good reviews. Kinda wish I waited a bit though I like watching shows when they are over so I don't have to put up with the wait for it come back. Ive never wished so much time away, but I really wish it was July already! If I can though I will hold off until season 5 is over so I can watch it all together.

I saw an ad for it coming to FX (in '09 I think) and thought it looked great. Said it to a mate and we were watching it and telling others in work about it but it's taken until now for most of them to start watching it ffs!

I've literally been watching it since before it started. :pac:

This is a great video to show to someone to get them watching!

It was a tweet from des bishop when season 4 began that alerted me to BB,I had honestly never heared of it before that.I googled it and it looked interesting so I downloaded the first few episodes.
Before season 4 had even ended I had caught up..

Friends and co-workers told me it was a must watch, also just signed up to Netflix and so I did watch it and they were right.

I'm usually kept busy during the winter months with the regular TV shows but I use the Summer months to look around for things I've missed and catch up on them. I heard abut BB on here on the TV forum last year. I had heard of the show before but I wasn't the biggest Malcolm In The Middle fan so the fact that Hal was in it put me off. Reviews here were great though so I downloaded seasons 1-3 and it was all I watched for a week or two. I was absolutely hooked and, luckilly was finished not long before Season 4 started. Going from finishing one ep right into the next as I was doing, to watching week to week was very frustrating however, especially as S4 was slow to kick off. I'm looking forward to S5 this July but I'm a bit sad that it'll be another show that's brilliant but over come Autumn. :(

Friends telling me I have to watch it, and saying it's as good, if not better, then the wire. Pretty big call in my book but I have to say, they weren't wrong.

I was bored of documentaries and random movies so I am working on my laptop a lot more nowadays and I needed something to focus my procrastinations on. Breaking Bad has answered my prayers. Ten Fold!

It's just one of those "great American shows" that you eventually tune in to see what all the fuss is about. 'Tis what happened to me anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,996 ✭✭✭Mr.Saturn

Mrs. Saturn nabbed the S1 boxset a wee while after we'd finished The Wire, fast-forward a couple years and we're still stonked like a couple of crystal-fiends.

Had never heard of the show the first time I watched it, was looking for something interesting to watch on tv after being fed up with so many disappointing movies. Googled different actors I liked, to see what they were doing, always liked Bryan Cranston when he was in 'Malcolm in the middle', so thought I would check this out. Watched the first episode in amazement, couldn't believe my luck, glued myself to the tv to view the first two seasons over a few days and have been addicted ever since. Breaking bad rocks!

I watched the show from the start just after it aired in the states. I was not sure if it would make it but after the first two episodes I was hooked.
The show has come so far. Amazing stuff. My dad the Chemistry teacher is amazed by it after he started watching it recently.

Vince Gilligan admits that they show the cooking-montages out of sequence, as to not give anyone ideas. When he points that out, watch'im like a hawk.

My uncle originally told me about it when I was helping set up his new computer. Showed me a bit of an episode but I never bothered to actually watch it again. A couple of months ago I had one of those "Fcuk, I have nothing to watch" moments and it came up in the PW Off Topic thread so I gave it a lash. Watched the first two seasons in one weekend. Finished season four a couple of weeks before season five started so I didnt have to wait long. Im dreading the end of this run though. Might have to watch them all again to get my fix :pac:

A friend who is a science student and so was immediately drawn to the premise. She was telling me to watch it for ages and I kept putting it off or forgetting, and eventually got round to it. So glad I did!

I was discussing Netflix with my brother about 2 weeks ago and he mentioned it. Signed up to Netflix and myself and the wife have watched up to season 3 episode 12. Best television I've seen since the first two seasons of Lost.

I was on Homicide: Life on the Street's IMDB page looking to see what the actors moved onto when I came to Giancarlo Esposito page I saw Breaking Bad and said I would give it a try. I remember watching it back to back saying its not that great I'll give it one more ep. Next thing I new I had finished season four going this is amazing!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

I didn't like the pilot, at all.

Then a few months later I got Netflix, and I said I'd give it another go.

    Glad I did. BOOM!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭El Siglo

Seen an ad for it on FX when I was at home but only copped it for Bryan Cranston being in it wearing boxers waving a handgun. Started watching it during the MSc thesis project (lot's of time at the computer) and ever since then have just been hooked on it. I don't think I've ever been as hooked on a program. The pilot sold it for me and it just kept getting better and better from there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭cunnifferous

I only got into it a few months ago, after most of my friends had been goin on about it for years. Wasn't really into it till the end of the first season. Glad I stuck with it tho!
